About this deal

Update 08/14/2017: webOS update 3.6 fixed the PC mode HDR issue, so 4:4:4 color can now be properly displayed in HDR content. The 4:4:4 + HDR input lag has been measured as ~21 for both 4k and 1080p, which is no different from the other low input lag measurements. Bean Bird doesn’t cover everything, though, and while the LG generally does a good job of selecting picture settings that suit whatever you’re watching, there are a number of options you can tweak to get the best out of it.

We calibrated our LG OLED55C7V-ZA review sample using a Klein K10-A colorimeter profiled against a JETI Spectraval 1511 reference-grade spectroradiometer, DVDO AVLab TPG and Murideo Fresco Six-G signal generators, as well as Portrait Displays’ CalMAN software.

You should start by switching from the Eco mode to Standard and turning off Energy Saving. Extra efficiency is all well and good, but (as with most TVs) these modes hamper picture quality significantly.

The default picture preset is Eco, which doesn’t deliver the best picture for viewing in the home. Turn this off. Have a play with the TruMotion settings, too. Everyone responds a little differently to motion-processing, but we can't imagine many will approve of the C7’s quite aggressive defaults. For HDR, peak brightness on our OLED55C7V review sample measured 690 nits on a 10% window after calibration. While this figure was slightly lower than that I extracted from the OLED55B7, I attribute it to panel-to-panel variance rather than a true difference between the B7 and C7 series.

The storage humidity shows the lower and upper humidity limit, which ensures safe storage of the display. Storing it outside these limits might damage the display. OLED TVs such as the LG C7 range also deliver very wide viewing angles, which almost don’t suffer from any decrease in contrast and saturation off-axis. You can sit almost anywhere in the room and not have your picture fade out. Automatic Brightness Limiter is a necessary evil on self-emissive displays such as CRT, plasma and OLED to prevent the power surge demanded by high-APL (Average Picture Level) video frames from overloading the pixels and components.

LG says this C7 performs exactly like the B7, and we agree. We experience almost no differences in the picture quality, and those we do notice (a very slightly warmer image on the B7) are ever so slight. For gaming, the LG is also hard to beat, thanks to input lag of just 21.4ms and just the sort of detail, definition and contrast to make the most of the latest and greatest console games. HDR titles such as Horizon Zero Dawn look especially stunning on this set.

A stunning picture at an affordable price puts OLED back on top

The pixel pitch shows the distance from the centers of two neighboring pixels. In displays, which have a native resolution (the TFT ones, for example), the pixel pitch depends on the resolution and the size of the screen. Honestly, on this evidence there’s not a huge difference between ‘normal’ HDR and Dolby Vision, but you can rest easy knowing that when the Dolby Vision logo appears you’re seeing precisely the picture that the director intended. Finally, the OLED55C7 proves a treat for gamers thanks to taking just 21ms to render its pictures, and delivers more impact from good quality native 4K sources than any previous OLED generation. This latter strength is mostly down, it seems, to LG’s improved color subtlety and light controls in the image’s darkest and brightest areas.

The most widely used panels are those with 6, 8, and 10 bits for each of the RGB components of the pixel. They provide 18-, 24-, and 30-bit color, respectively. The operating humidity shows the acceptable level of humidity, in which the display will function flawlessly. It sets a lower and an upper humidity level for safe operation and is measured in percentage. Last year’s C6 was curved, so you’d expect the same from the C7, but no – the OLED55C7V is vehemently flat. LG has decided against offering any bent TVs in its 2017 lineups, since market research show waning demand for the format. As the primary advocate of TV-sized OLED display technology since 2013, it’s hardly surprising to find that LG Electronics still offers the widest range of OLED televisions this year. The LG C7 sits alongside the B7 as the company’s entry-level/ most affordable model, but prospective buyers will be pleased to know that its picture quality should be very similar to the step-up E7, G7 and W7 SIGNATURE series of Wallpaper TV, since all of them use the same WRGB OLED panel and SoC (system on chip). The operating temperature shows the safe temperature range (from minimum to maximum), within which the display will function flawlessly. Outside this range it might operate improperly and/or fail entirely. For instance, despite not having any visible speakers, the OLED55C7 supports Dolby Atmos. This only works with Atmos carried by Dolby Digital containers, though, not the Dolby True HD containers used on Blu-rays and Ultra HD Blu-rays (which greatly limits its usefulness) but it’s still of value for the hardcore audio enthusiasts among us. WebOS (now in its 3.5 iteration) remains one of the nicest, snappiest and most useable TV interfaces out there, with Samsung’s own interface being the only one to run it close. Information of the number of pixels in a unit of length. With the decrease of the display size and the increase of its resolution, the pixel density increases.
