In January, Club Soda members across the country, in Manchester, London and Glasgow, tried Crodino at our lunches and voted for their best ways to drink it. (although we did ignore the Italian bartender in Carluccio’s in Glasgow who suggested that we drink it in the true Italian way with the bottle tipped up and left in the glass.) 3 ways to drink Crodino Experiment with different citrus fruits like grapefruit or lime, using their juice or zest for a unique flavor variation. Non-alcoholic sparkling wine to replace the Prosecco. You can substitute it with soda water or tonic water. This is why Crodino makes for such a magnificent alcohol-free Aperitivo moment. What alcohol goes with Crodino? Tapping into his sensorial instincts, Bruno Malavasi captures the signature profile andsurprisingly rich taste of Crodino in every drop.

Sir James Bitter Aperitif is a pre-mixed alcohol-free Aperol Spritz. Although it already has a more complex flavor profile, it works great in this recipe. Crodino takes its name from Crodo, a small town located in the North West of Italy, where it has been produced and bottled since 1964, the year of birth of the “Blond” Aperitif. Its unique bitter taste comes from an extract still produced according to a secret recipe, with a traditional infusion of carefully selected herbs, spices, woods and roots that are ripened for six months, giving it a distinctive and refreshing aroma. Crodino and Aperol are similar in flavour but not in looks (Aperol is a deep orange). Aperol is also an alcoholic drink whereas Crodino is not.

Cardamom, the final main ingredient, and well-known for its extremely preciousessential oil, gives its intensely aromatic and spicy, woody fragrance that is hot andpeppery with eucalyptus and camphor undertones. The signature taste of Crodino has remained unchanged for fifty years; the drink todaycontinues to respect the original recipe kept secret by Crodino’s Herbalist & Master Blender;Bruno Malavasi.

Whilst there are some slightly bitter lemonades and orange fizzy drinks that you can find, Crodino goes one step further and is more bitter and less sweet. A grown-up drink that is sippable. It is a bright shade of rust-orange and the first thing Club Soda members said in Scotland was that it looked like Irn-Bru! But that is where the similarity ends. It has a bitter-sweet character to it, with hints of vanilla and a touch of orange. After this comes the herbal bitter notes which are a good way to round off any drink in my view! Intense flavour profile Instead of tonic water, you can use non-alcoholic sparkling wine, ginger ale, or more sparkling water.Crodino was first launched in 1965 under the name of ‘Picador’. The secret recipe captivated Italian households right from the start, and soon Crodino was in bars and restaurants all over the country. Even more than 50 years later the exact blend of spices, herbs and botanicals is a closely guarded secret, though a few ingredients have become common knowledge. The spices nutmeg, coriander, cardamom and cloves, along with the other secret ingredients, all lend their distinct fragrances to the sparkling aperitif. The infusion is aged for six months to develop the complex flavours and aromas before being bottled. Add tonic water to the glass, followed by freshly squeezed orange juice and lemon juice. If the juice contains a lot of pulp, you can use a fine-mesh sieve to remove the pulp. If you want your drink ice-cold without diluting it, I highly recommend these marble ice cubes. Keep them in the freezer and use them as ice cubes.
