About this deal

The bright orange hue comes from the lengthy steeping of tea leaves and Thai spices, lending a herbaceous flavor to this unique Thailand beverage. However, if you can get past the appearance, this Thai drink is a sweet, syrupy refreshment that not only quenches thirst but also feels almost dessert-like! Chang And Singha Beer Mekhong was developed and first produced by the government of Thailand for economic and political reasons. That’s right-the Thai government was in the business of making and selling booze. Let’s take a closer historical look. Mekhong Thai whiskey inadvertently got all bound up in the Franco-Thai war of 1940 and its aftermath. Thai iced milk tea, or chai yen, is one of the most well-known drinks from Thailand. Visit any major city, and you’ll likely see Thai commuters swinging bags of this tasty liquid from one wrist. Bright orange in color, Thai iced milk tea can seem like an intimidating drink choice for tourists. Lao Khao’, or ‘White Spirit’, as it translates in English, is a popular and potent rice whisky synonymous with Isaan as well as alcoholism in the rural parts of Thailand. And it is an alcohol that is widely available throughout all of Thailand, where it is sold by the bottle from pretty much every store and 7-11 in the country (around 60 Baht plus per bottle). But, for those who just want a taster of Lao Khao, it is often found sold by the shot glass (15 Baht) in smaller independent stores, as well as poured into reused energy drink bottles (30 Baht). There is also a popular concoction called Yaa Dong at Thai street food, which I will share down below, but first I will go more into the traditions and significance of this potent rice whisky in Thai culture.

You don’t have much choice when it comes to Thai whiskey. While Sang Som and Mekhong are quite popular brown liquors they are not quite whiskeys but rather rums: The primary ingredient of these two brands is molasses which makes them spiced rum. Hong Thong Whiskey is a great choice for those who enjoy a mild, sweet whiskey with a smooth finish. Its unique flavor and easy drinkability make it a popular choice among whiskey lovers around the world. Varieties Regency: This is a premium brand of Thai whiskey that is made using a blend of aged malt and grain whiskies. It has a complex, rich flavor and is often sipped neat.Hong Thong whiskey is a unique and beloved product of Thailand. Its smooth flavor and golden hue make it a favorite among locals and tourists alike. As long as it is consumed responsibly, there is no reason why anyone should not enjoy a glass or two of Hong Thong whiskey. History By the late 1930’s, Thai men and ex-pats had developed quite a taste for imported scotch, bourbon and whiskey. So much so that a slight but noticeable trade deficit in distilled spirits had appeared like an inconvenient zit on the Siamese government’s foreign trade balance. The production of Hong Thong is a complex and time-consuming process, which requires a great deal of skill and expertise to achieve the desired flavor and quality. The result is a premium spirit that is enjoyed by people all over the world. Taste So the days of bars, restaurants, and even shops selling alcohol 24/7 are long in the past in Thailand, although there are seemingly still a fair few drinkers in the nation who don’t have a problem working around that. Either way, drinking forms an integral part of socializing in Thailand for a high proportion of the population.

Far more refined than Chiang Choom, a signature Thai spirit was developed and produced from a concoction of sugar cane, rice whiskey and a blend of secret Thai spices. Put it in the freezer an hour before drinking. Simple. A shot before a dinner of spicy Thai food is nirvana.
