Unsurprisingly, Day 1 of the Guardians of the Galaxy Advent Calendar begins with Star-Lord, leader of the Guardians. Considering the huge audience that Marvel Studios has kept over the years and the widespread appeal of this team, that’s unlikely to be an issue and these deep-cut Easter eggs are something that Marvel enthusiasts will love to see with each passing day. And here’s a look at Star-Lord’s alternate expression, which really, is just the default Christ Pratt face at this stage. I guess it’s Christmas after all, and there blow-up Candy Cane decorations in the GOTG Holiday Special, but this could pop out of the City or LEGO Friends Advent Calendar, and it wouldn’t be out of place at all. So, I am noticing a pattern so far – the next minifigure comes up when you add 4 to the last time you received one. Such jumpers are becoming more common in LEGO Advent Calendars following appearances in CITY and Star Wars in previous years. Those only interested in the Guardians of the Galaxy aspect of this set can also find many of the minifigures in this model in 76193 The Guardians’ Ship, though you’ll struggle to find another Drax minifigure without resorting to the secondary market. Provided you do want to build all 24 days’ worth of builds at once, expect it to take around 35 minutes.

Not sure if its just me, but the antenna are a little wonky on her hairpiece which is made out of rubbery plastic, which isn’t my favourite material. For day 2, I had some grey circles too and, looking at the pic, I think one if supposed to be in the present box, in the middle of the headphones. I love what they’ve done with the wings, which can be fanned out at different angles, and just how sleek this ship looks. It’s honestly so boring, and unlike other builds, there’s nothing “Guardians of the Galaxy” about this build.

It offers more fun than just opening the squares, offers a variety of items and is fantastic for kids and adults alike that are into either or all of Lego, Marvel or Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s pretty good, and has space for one minifigure to pilot it, but overall, it feels like they could’ve squeezed it into 2 days instead of 3, wasting precious spots close toward the end of the Advent Calendar.

It’s pretty much perfect, and I’m so glad that we finally get a build worth getting this excited for. This is, for the most part, adequate instruction; the simplest builds are minifigures with a single accessory. Even the 3-day ship feels like it should’ve been kept to 2 days at the max, but this has been quite poor, especially when you compare it against the Star Wars, Harry Potter and even Friends Advent Calendars which have largely been excellent. Not bad from Day 10, and with so many cool and unique spaceship designs to draw from, I sure hope this won’t be the last micro-build we see! I assumed, for the most part, that I should practice symmetry–what I do for the right side of the model should also be done for the left side of the model.
