I print greeting cards commercially. We are somewhat fanatical about producing great looking images (photography on some of the greeting cards).

In addition to card printing, we now have 3 crafting printers the Epson ET-8500, Epson ET-8550 and the Canon PIXMA TS9550 printer. The Epson ET-8500 and ET-8550 printers will print up to 800gsm (1.5mm), but for media above 300gsm, you will need to print through the straight paper path. The Canon TS9550 will print up to 300gsm and is a Canon-recommended crafting printer. I also want to print art prints A5 & A4 size, which Epson eco tank would you say would be the best option for both these points? A6 – 105 x 148 mm, or 4.13 x 5.83 in – A standard size for postcards and a common print size for photos. It has duplex print, scan and copy functions and has a maximum media handling capability of 250gsm. From the sounds of it, the Xerox C8000 would still be a good option for your printing. It can handle up to 300gsm media and print at great quality. These can take uncoated papers too however, when it comes to specialised media you would need to use papers designed for a laser printer. There aren’t any mono laser A4 machines that can take more than 250gsm, and the few that do, won’t work with foil unfortunately. Changes to toner on newer printers means that they contain more wax-like substances that don’t lend themselves to the foiling process. The Samsung M3820ND works OK with foil, but will only print on 220gsm. Other than the Samsung machine, there aren’t really any others we could recommend.
