About this deal

The lights are bright and vivid, and there is a fair amount of customization, but you'll need to use the supplied remote to access some of the functions (rather than being able to access them using the buttons on the device). Other star projectors on this list, namely the Bliss Lights models, offer more color combinations, but there's more than enough here to entertain yourself and your children. The National Geographic Astro Planetarium is a high-quality indoor planetarium for a reasonable price that accurately represents the night sky and comes with plenty of extras. There are two projection discs included; one displays 8,000 stars, and the other has guidelines for the major constellations overlaid on them. Crucially, what you see is true to the time and day you set, as we confirmed during our National Geographic Astro Planetarium review. The only downside with the Atmosphere Smart Galaxy Projector is that the nebulas and stars aren't scientifically accurate. Still, we enjoyed the experience so much that we didn't feel short-changed. We were especially happy with the option to adjust both the brightness and the projection speed, which makes the device great for setting a calm environment or an energetic party scene. Depending on the model you choose, star projectors can recreate the night sky accurately from the comfort of your own home, surrounding you with stars, constellations and double as galaxy projectors. Whether you’re hosting a space-themed party, learning about the cosmos or simply looking for a way to help you fall asleep, star projectors can do it all. We chose these galaxy projectors based on a few key factors. First, we wanted to make sure they were simple to use and accessible to anyone so you wouldn’t have to be bothered with any overly elaborate set-ups. It’s supposed to be a relaxing experience, after all.

There are 30 additional discs available when you visit Astrial, Sega Toys' official online store. Simulations of the aurora borealis and the aurora australis are perhaps the highlights. There is a disc that displays the planets of the solar system as well, but it is the ones that show galaxies, nebulas and other NASA-based imagery that really stand out. For example, the North America nebula as taken by NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope and the weird seven-star system called Jabbah (officially called Nu Scorpii and IC 4592) as imaged by NASA's WISE mission. You can also buy disks that simulate fireworks, 'night jellyfish' and a hot-air balloon festival. This LED galaxy projector helps bring the planetarium experience into your home. Sega Toys’ Homestar series is designed by prize-winning Japanese inventor and professional planetarium specialist Takayuki Ohira. The Homestar Flux provides accurate high-res images of 60,000 stars. It’s also designed with advanced optical lenses and warm LED lights that provide sharp and vivid imagery. Most star projectors come with a 'sleep timer' that will switch the device off after a specified amount of minutes. There is a shooting star function, but this leaves a little to be desired, and we think it's an unnecessary add-on.Galaxy projectors are soothing devices that project gorgeous color combinations and patterns to help with anxious sleepers, kids, or anyone who just loves looking at the night sky. Some devices feature smart app controls, others offer more simple and straightforward controls, but all the items on our list create a dreamy atmosphere that’s sure to mesmerize you. Some venture well outside efforts to recreate actual stars and simply project coo light patterns around the room. In theory, yes. Most models of star projectors run from mains AC power or DC through a USB port, so they will run as long as they are plugged in. Some models are battery-powered, meaning you run the risk of the battery running out of power overnight. Sega Toys Homestar FluxGreat for recreating a realistic-looking night sky inside. It's on the pricier end of the market but the option to upgrade your disc collection is attractive. The night sky representation is about as realistic as it gets.★★★★½ The lights shine through a refractor dome. It features unique angles that bounce light in all directions, creating that signature galactic feel. It even rotates, bringing some motion into the mix. Take control of the lights with the included remote. You can cycle through modes, set the timer, and more. The operation of the motor is very smooth and quiet, so it would be fine as a night light to drift off to sleep. As we mentioned in our review, the lighting module seems to be the same — if just a tiny bit less impressive — as other star projectors we have reviewed, including the BlissLights Sky Lite 2.0and the Encalife Atmosphere Smart Galaxy Star Projector. They are by no means scientific, but they can be customized using the supplied remote control to a speed and color configuration to suit you.

One of the major benefits of this model is the ability to help calm your mind and drift away to a deep sleep. The soothing and relaxing galaxy light calms the senses, and helps to properly wind down from a hard day at work or school. Once again, we're not sure what we love most about this feature-rich Aurora Borealis Northern Lights Star Projector. You can easily choose between a whopping 16.7 million Aurora colors by using the buttons on the device, the remote control that comes with it or your smartphone to control it. As we confirmed in our BlissLights Evolve review, the operation is near silent like the Sky Lite 2.0. The Bliss Lights Sky Lite Evolve would be perfect in a gaming room, during a party, at a movie night or as a relaxation tool to unwind or drift off to sleep with. There are three models in the range — blue, green, or no lasers. Turn your room into the cosmic oasis you’ve always wanted. This galaxy projector is small but mighty. It can produce ten colors with powerful LED technology. The lights are vibrant and bright. Plus, they can cycle through to create a spectrum of shades and one-of-a-kind shows. During our Atmosphere Smart Galaxy Projector review, we were impressed by its sleek design that's sure to delight many: it's modern and compact, allowing the user to place it anywhere in the household without ruining the aesthetic. The unit can be adjusted to four angles, making it flexible enough to project from your selected surface onto the wall or ceiling.

It displays an immeasurable amount of color combinations from a bright 5-watt bulb. The colors are vivid and immersive, and the BlissLights Evolve uses unique color blending technology to allow for pastel-style colors rather than highly contrasting color patterns. You can spend hours gazing up at the soothing changing patterns and experimenting with color combinations and brightness in the app. Turn on the laser 'stars' to further transform your space (up to 30x30 feet!) into an otherworldly sensory experience. Galaxy projectors can be great for babies. The lights create a soothing, relaxing, and mesmerizing atmosphere that can calm babies and toddlers who might be anxious sleepers. Some even come with soothing music to help calm the nervous system. Final thoughts on the best galaxy projectors As there are so many different star projectors available, you may think that you can buy one that will work for both you and your children. The truth is that you need one designed for either adults or kids. Kids’ projectors are usually more stylized or whimsical in design. They might look like a spaceship or a space shuttle and use bright colors that can overwhelm your space. Those designed for adults include more realistic displays and features such as rechargeable batteries and built-in speakers. That speaker lets you listen to music from your phone as you fall asleep or play loud music when you host a party. What are Some of the Benefits of Using a Star Projector? Control is simple, using three buttons — power, rotation and sleep timer — and it is powered by a battery which you can charge with a USB-C cable. You're not tied to a power source like with the Homestar Flux, and you don't have to keep changing the batteries as you do with the National Geographic model—again — another happy medium.

Like the Atmosphere Smart Galaxy Projector, you won't get scientific accuracy, but you'll get a fantastic 'insomnia-busting' experience that allows your children (or yourself) to sleep better at night. When you can’t go to the aurora borealis, you can bring the aurora borealis to you with this SOAIY night light projector. It recreates the gorgeous looks of the northern lights and places those lights in your home. If you want to switch to a different setting, you can choose from seven different light displays. The projection lamp can run all night, but it also has one, two and four hour timers that you can use. It also lets you choose between a still or a rotating image and from three different brightness settings. Thanks to the built-in speaker, you can plug in a phone or music player and listen to music as you relax to the moving lights. As discussed in our Bresser Junior Astro-Planetarium Deluxe review, this star projector draws many parallels to the Bresser-made National Geographic Astro Planetarium but doesn't include an integrated FM radio or the ability to attach an audio device. The Bresser Junior can only be powered by 3 x AA batteries, so buyers will likely need to grab some spares if they use it long-term. The lights aren't at all scientifically accurate, but they don't claim to be either. They are highly customizable and you can make and save your own scenes. You could, for example, create a spa scene using neutral colors and slower movement, then create a party scene with bright colors and maximum movement. It's possible to seamlessly switch between the two as well. It would be great if the lights moved in time to music and sound like on the Encalife Ambience but sadly this isn't an option here. We also made sure each model was affordable. With so many good options on the market, there’s no reason to spend hundreds of dollars on a galaxy projector that can produce the same effects of a cheaper model.

Why it made the cut: This budget LED star projector comes with direct diode Laser, precision glass optics, and holographic technologies for a magical blue atmosphere that also budget-friendly.

In more detail.. Best Star Projector Reviews

Astronaut Starry Sky Star Projector:A well-made novelty star projector that every kid, or space fan, will love to have in their bedroom. It isn't quite on par with other star projectors performance-wise, but it does everything we'd expect of it, given its reasonable price. ★★★★ On top of the Bluetooth speaker, there is also in-built 'white noise' functionality, presumably to be used as a sleeping-aid first and foremost. There's a catalog of 19 different sounds from a cow moo-ing and a dog barking, to more sleep-appropriate 'watery noises,' piano tunes and 'standard' white noise. The spherical design means you have near 360-degree angling, and it comes with a 1.5 m cable, giving maximum positioning flexibility. This gives it a slight edge over the Encalife Atmosphere Smart Galaxy Smart Projector, which has similar specs but can only be used in four fixed positions. Most star projectors will have a sleep timer — we look for how many options for the sleep timer duration you have and whether it is effective and reliable.
