Dale Bredesen, MD, offers a potential solution to this huge problem by outlining 36 metabolic factors (micronutrients, hormone levels, sleep) that can trigger “downsizing” in the brain. Describes a book or dust jacket that does show some signs of wear on either the binding, dust jacket or pages. One reason I give it such a high rating is that because although it may look a little juvenile because of the imagery, it is incredibly informative and uses visual components to simplify the complexity of the human brain- something that the general public really doesn’t know much about even though they should. Tell your friend that when they see you release the ruler, they are to pinch shut and grab it as fast as possible. It provides an accessible guide to how the brain’s structures and functions determine how the mind works, and how this fits into the bigger picture of our evolution and biology as a species.

From the way it controls and regulates our bodily functions to the mysterious complexities of the mind this book covers all facets in a very informative and graphical way that I found a most interesting read. The simplest graphics and the clearest text combine to produce the most accessible and visual guide to neuroscience available. It provides an accessible guide to how the brain's structures and functions determine how the mind works, and how this fits into the bigger picture of our evolution and biology as a species. It’s not just a collection of stuff that’s appeared in the other collections, although I think a few of the info boxes and so on did come from other New Scientist publications originally. The formula below consists of three variables: y = the distance you measured in centimeters; g0 = the acceleration due to gravity constant (981 cm/sec2); and t = time in seconds. Designed by two neuroscientists and an anatomist, it’s a fun way to learn about the structure and function of the human brain. It is a super interesting and informative book that is simple and easy to understand on how our brain functions. The book concludes with advancements in biological engineering that is beginning to tap into implantation and assistance to the brain.
