About this deal

It has no words and uses beautifully created collage to show the progress of a scene from a window showing creeping urbanisation, over a period of possibly twenty years. Tidy tackles the theme of caring for the environment from the unusual viewpoint of being overzealous and taking tidying too far. Your words, like your reviews, bring books to life and give them a voice before the front cover is even turned.

From climate change to animal conservation, these picture books, poetry collections, novels and graphic novels will encourage children and young people to think about and discuss pressing issues about the environment. It was such a pleasure to meet you both, and I really appreciated how smoothly and professionally you ran everything. Gravett's familiar minor cast of bemused bunnies and dishevelled foxes pop up throughout and the pictures are packed with comic detail. A study of the double page spread showing Pete’s home trapped under a platform of concrete is a great example of this. Bronnie is so lovely with the boys and we also felt that having a man enthusing about the books set a great example.

Emily Gravett’s engaging woodland creatures will appeal to fans of such classics as The Animals of Farthing Wood and The Wind in the Willows and the rhythmic, rhyming text is perfect for reading aloud. A rhyming text and witty illustrations introduce us to badger, Pete, whose penchant for keeping the forest and his various animal friends spick and span appears, to begin with, largely laudable. As earth is reclaimed by nature, the message of our responsibility to all living things is reinforced. From the creator of Meerkat Mail and Dogs, comes a very funny rhyming woodland story about the perils of being too tidy. When his over-zealous tidying begins to have a damaging impact on the forest and its inhabitants, Pete realises that he may have gone too far - and sets about trying to put things right.

He snips off flowers that don't match, washes the birds, vacuums the forest floor and sweeps, scrubs and polishes until everything is spick and span. The clever use of colour and pop up devices are engaging and all the more terrible, when the scene of devastation is shown as white, blank and lifeless. Sunday Times If you haven't discovered the brilliant wit and inventiveness of award- winning Emily Gravett yet, then this superbly illustrated rhyming adventure is a great place to start.

There was just the right amount of choice to suit everyone without being overwhelming and I received comments from parents and staff about the quality of books offered compared to previous sales which have always been based around current crazes and well known celebrity authors. It would be interesting to find out if any other behaviour traits found in the wild animals are also found in the fictional badgers.

Emily Gravett is twice winner of the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal and the Nestlé Children's Book Prize Bronze Award for Wolves and Little Mouse's Big Book Of Fears. We are experiencing delays with deliveries to many countries, but in most cases local services have now resumed. Some also introduce children to different weather patterns, and other amazing features of planet Earth. The contrasting use of white instead of green emphasises the destruction of the machines and everything seems lost until a man comes along who starts to plant new seeds. However, the wicked looking stainless steel secateurs with which he is cutting off flowers whose colours ‘didn’t quite match’, should warn us that this is an animal whose scouring and scrubbing may lead to a drastic minimalist solution to nature’s inherent untidiness.
