About this deal

Meantime captures the banal and lively existence of being Glaswegian like a seesaw that drops you into oblivion. During the episode, Boyle also criticised former Prime Minister Boris Johnson for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom, stating to Johnson that "You finished [your term] with a quote from The Terminator. Read, through the prism of what you know about the author, makes you believe that you are getting insights behind the curtain.

But Felix has an alibi, of sorts, and as much as the police might like to pin him down for the murder, or potentially any misdemeanour to be fair, it is clear to them, and us as readers, that Felix is as innocent as the day is long. Boyle then said that the situation in Palestine "seems to be, in essence, apartheid", concluding that he had reached this position after watching a documentary about life in Palestine that he said had driven him to tears. In a four-star review for The Daily Telegraph, Kerridge praised that the author "regularly deploys the beautifully offbeat imagery that characterises the best of his stand-up", and wrote that he could hear Boyle in his head as the narrator. And really, if Boyle hates us all so much, why has he gifted us this gloriously funny treat of a novel? The short feature is an at-times-farcical but generally deadpan treatment of a man's attempted recovery from alcoholism.Boyle first performed stand-up at the University of Sussex Student Union, later gaining his big break after performing at The Stand Comedy Club in Edinburgh and winning an open-mic event at the 1996 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. This was condemned by the women's rights group FiLiA which found it shocking that anyone would consider rape a suitable subject for humour.

If someone decided to remake Trainspotting crossed with Columbo and it was co directed by the Coen Brothers and David Lynch then this is most likely what they would come up with. He also enlists several of his friends and associates to assist him in his endeavours to discover the real murderer as he believes that the Police don't really care. Reviewers found that the novel's plot was of secondary importance to its social and political commentary, including Scotland's role in colonialism and capitalism and the nature of Scottish identity. Maybe I’m being unfair in comparing it to another Glasgow comic’s lockdown debut novel … but I did give 4 stars to Kevin Bridges.

When making the TV show Frankie Goes to Russia before the 2018 World Cup, he travelled there by train.
