For 20 years William Grant nurtured a dream to make the ‘best dram in the valley'. With the help of his family, he finally achieved that vision. In the summer of 1886, with his seven sons and two daughters by his side, William set out to fulfil a lifelong ambition. Together they began building his Distillery by hand, stone by stone. After a single year of work it was ready and William named it Glenfiddich, Gaelic for Valley of the Deer. Rather than competing directly, Glenfiddich concentrated on single malt sales and in 1963 became the first Scotch whisky to be marketed as such, flying proudly in the face of critics. The gamble paid off, and eleven years later sixteen new stills were installed to cope with demand. Glenfiddich Age of Discovery is a rich 19 year old single malt matured in oak casks previously used to age fine Madeira wine. This has created an earthy, distinctive whisky with a full bodied yet fairly young character. More complex and flavourful than some of the more run-of-the-mill whisky cream liqueurs.
