About this deal

Re-enter pairing mode by pressing and holding the power/volume+ button for 5-7 seconds. Audrey will say “Welcome to Titanium!” and then “pairing” and then the LED light will flash red and blue. The key design feature of the Trekz Air is, of course, that they're not earphones at all, but speakers. Shokz calls this 'OpenFit', and despite them allowing you to hear what's going on around you, one of those small bone conduction transducers comes with a further safety option; a mute button. On the left-hand side and easy to find, it's designed for the user to press when, say, crossing a busy road. That's partly to do with the materials used and the weighting and positioning of the various components, but it's also got to do with where the speakers themselves sit on your head. At least on the face that we tested them on, the Trekz Air sat comfortably within a small dimple area at the top of the jawbone. It's a really subtle, careful, clever design. The headphones provide a new “premium pitch plus” ability which gives the user a better premium audio experience, including wide dynamic range and rich bass. The Trekz Air utilize the Bluetooth V4.2 connectivity which allows for multiple device pairing. This is compatible with an iOS or Android smartphone which has Bluetooth. The Bluetooth ability also provides access on tablets, Mac or PC computers, and laptops.

First and foremost, these headphones are no match for a pair of in-ear earbuds, they will provide far better sound quality than these headphones – but these headphones have a specific purpose because of how they sound. Unfortunately, I’ve not been able to try other bone conduction headphones, so this is my perspective of these headphones as someone who is predominantly a user of regular-style headphones and earbuds. On the flip side, ambient noise can, of course, distract you from your content. This is less of a problem than you might think—something about the bone conduction "centers" the sound perceptually, and it was generally very easy to distinguish between ambient audio and content, with little difficulty ignoring the former and concentrating on the latter. The OpenFit design of the headphones allows you to be fully aware of your surroundings as they do not obstruct or sit within your ears, making them great for use during outdoor sports or exercise, such as running or cycling, or if you need to be aware of your surroundings during work. Despite the open design of the headphones, sound leakage is minimal with only the high end of a song being audible from close-by. The headphones allow you to remain aware of your surroundings. One of our biggest gripes about the Trekz Air has to be its short battery life. Yes, we realise that it's lightweight design is to blame, and we're loathe to criticise that, but just six hours does put them in the dreaded 'day use' category. The AfterShokz Trekz Air are headphones for a very specific user, someone that wants to be able to listen to music or podcasts but needs to be fully aware of their surroundings. I think this makes the headphones great for those that do outdoor sports such as running or cycling as they allow you to listen to music but also be safe and allow you to have additional situational awareness in comparison to what a standard pair of headphones or earbuds would give you. The headphones have a niche audience, but perform well at what they set out to do. The headphones also come with some accessories, including a silicone rubber carrying case and earplugs within the box. It’s nice to see that a carrying case has been included to protect the headphones when not in use. Battery Life The AfterShokz Trekz Air are next generation in style and weight of bone conduction technology. AfterShokz designed these as the lightest and most organically designed open ear headphones to date. If you’ve already connected your bone conduction headphones to a device, you’ll want to manually reset the headphones and clear/forget the headphones from your device before you get started. Ready to try it out?

They cut away bulk and utilized titanium where they could to fit more securely and increase sound quality. The Trekz Air products were inspired due to the needs and requirements of elite athletes who are wanting to bring music into their world.

The new Air is everything you love about Titanium, but with advanced features and improvements. Not only is the new design 20% lighter, it contains a full titanium wraparound band for better durability, new antenna for stronger Bluetooth ® connectivity, enhanced dual noise-cancelling mics for crystal-clear calls, improved LeakSlayer ™ technology for a more private listening experience, and redesigned transducers that deliver high-quality PremiumPitch+ sound with more bass tones.

That said, if you're just after the Shokz Trekz Air for fitness use, then the battery will be great and easily last a marathon for nearly everyone. Shokz quotes a battery life of around six hours for the OpenMove (the same as the Air, and two hours less than the OpenRun. In our tests, this seemed to hold true – and is perhaps a modest estimate. A full charge lasted us closer to seven hours. Aeropex feature the most advanced bone conduction technology and the latest PremiumPitch 2.0+, meaning louder volume and more dynamic bass. If you’re into high-impact workouts, Aeropex are the perfect training partner. Aeropex headphones are certified with an IP67 waterproof rating. The Air and Titanium share the same controls—a large "multifunction button" on the side of the left earpiece and power/volume-up and volume-down buttons beneath the right earpiece. The charging port is sealed beneath a soft rubber flap just behind the volume-change buttons.

How do you control AfterShokz Air?

Open your phone’s Bluetooth menu and select “Air by Shokz.” The voice prompt will say, “Connected.” Weighing 1.06 ounces and IP55 certified, Air is by far the most weightless, natural-feeling sports headphone we’ve created. Designed with the hardest working athletes in mind, Air becomes a part of you as you train to achieve your toughest goals while staying connected to the world around you. It is an odd feeling at first and definitely takes some getting used to as most of us have only used in ear headphones our entire lives. Switching between the Shokz Air and OpenMove, the difference in sound quality is noticeable – the OpenMove’s sound is much richer and more detailed. Press and hold the multifunction button and power/volume+ button at the same time for 2-3 seconds. Audrey will say "Multipoint Enabled."

Named after their easy, breezy all-day comfort and their lightweight titanium frame, AfterShokz Air headphones offer high-performance sound quality and a stylish look at an affordable price. Features like patented bone conduction technology and an updated design style make Air the perfect choice for athletes or everyday people looking to stay aware of their surroundings without compromising on performance.

Air vs. Titanium

They offer 4 different color combinations which fit the normal combos: Blue, Red, Green and grey. Battery Life The Air and Titanium both offer the exact same audio quality and battery life in my extensive testing. The major difference between the models is a thinner, lighter band on the Air that some users prefer. Also, the beep when adjusting the volume is significantly louder on the newer Air model—enough so that I found it a bit painful. When you want to disable Bluetooth multipoint, press and hold the multi-function and volume up buttons for 3 seconds. The voice prompt will say, But many people don't want headphones for just one use any more - especially at this price -and if that's you, then you might find the battery life a little short .
