It’s time to replace my cheap old headset after a client spoilt me with a Jabra set, but then took them back after the project…which is fair enough, I guess. Other design differences between the two models include the red cable and silver accents on the Evolve 40, whereas the Evolve2 30 is predominantly black. I’m not giving up on Jabra or wires…look out for my review of the cheaper Jabra Evolves 20s which I have bought to replace these.

There are actually three separate microphones built into the boom arm, to ensure your voice is heard clearly. In my video review I comment on the bits on the case, that was a bit harsh and I take it back; I would much prefer there be a few bits from the box on the case than have a plastic bag keeping it perfect. The curvatures of the Jabra Evolve2 30 (left) and Evolve 40 (right) is easier to differentiate here. At the very least, you won’t feel the need to swap to a different headset if you want to enjoy some tunes while working on reports, for example. Instead of just slapping a new name on the previous models, Jabra have gone back to the drawing board for the Evolve2 series. This allows the Evolve2 30 to analyze background noise and reduce it so you can concentrate on your conversation. The single ear models are a lot lighter, of course, but the Evolve2 30 is still much lighter than the Evolve 40, too. You are trying to listen to all your team members whilst keeping the world around you as silent as possible, the virtual work environment has become the norm but are you prepared? Jabra successfully upgraded its Evolve2 line from the Evolve series, significantly improving ergonomics and aesthetics while also adding some nice QoL features. Jabra has tested devices with a long list of platforms, and offers Microsoft Teams certified variants from our wide range of headsets and speakerphones.

There are cheaper, more premium, wireless, in-ear and over-ear options available…pretty much whatever you want. They are future-proof and compatible with all softphone and web clients, from Microsoft Teams to Mitel. Jabra are known for the excellent quality of their headsets, and we consistently rate them above the competition from Sennheiser and Plantronics. What really brings it home is the reasonable pricing for this new series, allowing them to trump the older models.Anyway, I have changed my mind on this too; the right earphone has a little mute button and the boom lifts up to mute (a little voice even tells you when you have gone on or off mute) and both work brilliantly…I would not swap this option for the dongle I was so keen to have.

Anyway, the sidetone level was pre-set too high, I tried a few settings and was torn between off and the minimum…I went for the minimum setting in the end and the problem is solved. A soft gel like headband that moulds to your head shape, there is still pressure from the headband but only minimal due to the cushioning. Even listening to music was pretty good once I had changed the pre-set to ‘bass’ and tweaked the graphic equaliser a bit (see the video for where you do this). The ear cups of the Jabra Evolve2 40 have been redesigned to take advantage of the very latest technology. The Evolve2 40 is also UC (Unified Communications) compliant, so it works with all your collaborating platforms including GoToMeeting, Skype for Business, Microsoft Teams, Cisco WebEx, Zoom, Google Hangouts and many more.
