When he finds out his mother is sick, he needs to get across the country to her, but it means facing everything that scares him. This is no happy trip home, though, as Beau will have to face some seriously crazy stuff during the course of the epic odyssey. The picture also grows to a darker, low-lit series of images where the black levels are rather inky and rich. Aster, the director of Hereditary and Midsommar comes to Beau Is Afraid without that simplistic narrative that served his previous horror films. In its second act, Aster allows room to breathe and gives everyone a half-time break as Beau crosses paths with a commune in the forest who have erected a stage to act out a play.The early access digital probably won’t be too dissimilar to the UK, though, if what happened to Midsommar is anything to go by, so that could be June for the US too.

If this is earlier than expected then it will have a knock on impact on the DVD, Blu-ray and standard digital release. This could mean that the production might push for a slightly earlier release for home media to give it more time during the summer holiday months. more traditional horror, with both in fact having some pretty clearly derivative aspects that I mention in my reviews of those films. There’s a lot more variation in schedules for home media nowadays, and a lot of it comes down to how successful the film is on the big screen. Don't know when the DVD/ Blu-ray release will be in the US, but I'd say it's probably the same date.

There’s a lot more set pieces and special effects in Beau Is Afraid, so this would work well as a special feature too. Beau Is Afraid is presented on Blu-ray courtesy of A24 and Liongate Films with an AVC encoded 1080p transfer in 1. The detail is sharp and vivid throughout, even in the darker scenes in the attic and in the final twenty minutes of the movie. Like Aster's last release, it's certain that A24 or other studios will release a more elaborate version with more extras.
