About this deal

There are currently no other medicines available in the UK that contain this combination of paracetamol and phenylephrine with vitamin C. The side effects listed above may not include all of the side effects reported by the medicine's manufacturer. For more information about any other possible risks associated with this medicine, please read the information provided with the medicine or consult your doctor or pharmacist. How can this medicine affect other medicines? Combination products are marketed as comprehensive cold-fighting remedies, but the main benefit is convenience. Enzyme-inducing drugs may increase hepatic damage, as does excessive intake of alcohol. The speed of absorption of paracetamol may be increased by metoclopromide or domperidone and absorption reduced by colestyramine. These interactions are considered to be of unlikely clinical significance in acute use at the dosage regimen proposed.

Beechams Flu-Plus Caplets GSL - Patient Information Leaflet

Medicines and their possible side effects can affect individual people in different ways. The following are some of the side effects known to be associated with paracetamol and phenylephrine. Just because a side effect is stated here doesn't mean that all people using Beechams flu plus hot drinks will experience that or any side effect. Beechams flu plus sachets contain three active ingredients; the painkiller paracetamol (1000mg), a decongestant called phenylephrine hydrochloride (10mg) and ascorbic acid (40mg) otherwise known as vitamin C. The powder in the sachets is dissolved in hot water to make a hot drink. Standard painkillers can go a long way to alleviate the worst of common cold symptoms, including easing headaches and muscle pain and bringing down a temperature. Empty the contents of the sachet into a cup. Add half a cup of hot (not boiling) water and stir to dissolve. You can add cold water and sugar if you want before drinking. Adults aged 16 years and over should take one sachet every four to six hours as needed. Do not take more than four sachets in 24 hours. The anticoagulant effect of warfarin and other coumarins may be enhanced by prolonged regular daily use of paracetamol with an increased risk of bleeding; occasional doses have no significant effect. Phenylephrine overdosage is likely to result in effects similar to those listed under advserse reactions. Additional symptoms may include hypertension and possibly reflux bradycardia. In severe cases confusion, hallucinations, seizures and arrhythmias may occur. However the amount required to produce serious phenylephrine toxicity would be greater than required to cause paracetamol- related toxicity.
