We can see the wonderful efforts that Project Biodiversity has put into protecting these turtles and tourists can consider turtle adoption during their visit! By adopting a turtle, you will be helping to fund the efforts of WWF as it seeks to educate local communities about the importance of managing and conserving their natural resources which includes ensuring that marine turtles continue to survive. In one of nature's greatest spectacles — known as arribadas , the Spanish word for ‘arrival’ — olive ridleys come ashore simultaneously by the thousands to nest. is a nonprofit, tax-exempt charitable organization (tax ID number 52-1693387) under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Different species of sea turtles have different diets that vary from strictly herbivore to completely carnivore and many turtles will eat almost anything.

Adoptions last for a year so you will also receive our twice yearly Release newsletter and regular updates about our campaigns, with hints and tips on how you can help animals. Ongoing monitoring of nesting beaches and foraging sites enables us to understand more about their populations and increase protection in these areas.

Project Biodiversity are doing a wonderful job educating locals as well as tourists and the local tourism industry about how they can work together to save the turtles.

Unfortunately for Hawksbill turtles there has been an 80% decline in their population over the last three generations.

To date, there are a total of 168 green turtles and 18 hawksbill turtles in our sea turtle database. The most iconic of the sea turtles, the green turtle also has the most numerous and widely dispersed nesting sites of the seven species.
