Action Man was an animated series that aired from 1995-1997. It was produced by Mainframe Entertainment and originally aired in syndication. The show follows the adventures of the 'Action Man,' a soldier whose real name is Ian Noble. He and his team of international agents, known as the Action Force, fight against the evil organization, Venom, headed by the villainous Doctor X. The team travels the world to stop Venom's nefarious plans, using high-tech gadgets and vehicles to help them along the way. After being sabotaged by an unknown rider during the Snow Eagle Challenge, Alex's snow eagle is infected by a number of Doctor X's NTB's. And it's not long until they infect big air and take out the electrics while being on auto pilot. It's up to Alex to try and get rid of the NTB's from big air as well as prevent them from being shot down for entering restricted military air space. Dr. X captured and physically tested Alex Mann repeatedly, as well as his longtime rival & best friend Brandon Caine. Dr. X also added nanotech enhancements to Brandon, making him superior to Alex in athletics, only for them to have side effects. The culmination of the experiments was to mind transfer Dr. X into Brandon's body, becoming his younger self & nanotech cyborg, able to change his appearance and infect others. Following the ninth episode the series becomes more simplified. Dr. X founded the Council of Doom with his evil cohorts: assassin Asazi and weather manipulating scientist Tempest. Dr. X's nanotech trilobites appeared to gain collective intelligence and rebel against him, but this was actually Brandon Caine's uploaded mind punishing Dr. X. The action sequences are particularly impressive, with lots of explosions, fights, and intense moments that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats. The cinematography is also noteworthy, with dynamic camera angles and interesting shot compositions that make every scene visually stimulating.

Hasbro Interactive published the Windows game Action Man: Raid on Island X in the United States as a tie-in to the TV series, despite having nothing to do with it. Brandon Caine begins trying to prevent Doctor X from controlling him and seeks help from Alex and his team to try and stop X and his plans. This involves returning to the now sunken oil rig in a bid to access information, but all is not as quiet as first thought. The Action Man Underwater Explorer was launched in 1970 (following on from the success of the Navy Frogman and Deep Sea Diver of the 1960s) and was available with many new accessory sets - representing a comprehensive underwater adventure toy. The Underwater Explorer is missing from the 1975 and 1976 Equipment Manuals but is included in all until the end of Palitoy in 1984. There were variations to the main outfit and modifications throughout a long run. However the Treasure Hunter and Underwater Film Unit sets and individual accessories had short runs of a year or two and can be considered rare.
