About this deal

This is the most popular of the larger types of circular saw blades. These are usually worm drive circular saws since they offer more of the power and torque. However, it is also heavier and less nimble compared to the 7 ¼″.

You lift a lever to adjust the cutting depth, or turn a knob to vary the cutting angle – and both have marks to ensure accuracy. It’s a touch louder than the Makita, in both its no-load performance and during cutting, but its no-load speed is only a fraction behind. For occasional use, the Mac Allister is highly impressive, especially given that appealing price tag. In contrast with the 7 ¼” blades, the 10 ¼” has a most extreme cut depth of 3 13/16″ while the 12″ blade can cut to 4″.Additionally, the flange nut or arbor diameter affects the cutting depth. A wider nut or arbor allows for a greater depth, whereas a narrower nut or arbor limits the depth. You can control the cutting depth of a circular saw by adjusting the height of the footplate using its adjustable features. There’s no doubting the quality of the Makita, which goes a long way to explain the brand’s popularity among tradespeople. With the exception of the handle and motor shroud, pretty much everything here is made from metal and it feels like it could withstand an atomic blast, let alone a drop from a workbench.

You now understand how blade size affects cutting depth, exploring variations based on common blade sizes I’ve explained. Each size caters to specific project requirements, from the versatile 5 ½ inch saw to the robust 10 ¼ inch saw. Extra Features: Most of us like some nice extra features and benefits to our power tools that the manufacturer has built in to help us get the job done safer etc. The bore size - This is the hole size in the centre of the blade. It can be made smaller using reduction rings The same is true in case of a table saw, miter saw, and other similar power tools. 7 ¼″ Saw: How Deep Can a 7 ¼ Inch Circular Saw Cut?When trying to figure out what size of blade you need, the best starting point is to look closely at your circular saw. At a 90-degree angle, the 14″ (355.6mm) Grizzly G0772 can cut up to 4″ (101.6mm) deep. When you change the angle of cut to 45 degrees, the depth of cut drops to 2-¾” (69.85mm). With the 12″ (304.8mm) Grizzly G0605X1, the maximum depth of cut at a 90-degree angle is 4″ (101.6mm), too, and the maximum depth of cut at 45 degrees is 2-¾” (69.85mm). That’s why when shopping for a table saw; you’ll notice that each is labeled according to the diameter of the blade it can accommodate. Most of the saws can handle a 10-inch (254mm) blade, but a handful can accommodate a 12-inch (304.8mm) blade. 3.5” (88.9mm) is the maximum 10-inch (254mm) table saw cut depth, while a 12-inch (304.8mm) option can cut up to 4 inches (101.6mm). Calculating the theoretical depth of a circular saw cut involves considering various factors contributing to the cutting depth variation. The blade’s radius is a crucial element in this calculation. A larger blade radius results in a deeper cut, while a smaller radius yields a shallower cut.

inch circular saw can reach a maximum cut depth of 1 ¾ inches when the blade is set at a 90-degree angle. When the blade is tilted to a 45-degree angle, the maximum cut depth is reduced to 1 3/8 inches. As the name implies, the blade itself is in the shape of a circle with the teeth jutting outward. The top of the blade is covered with a blade guard to protect against dust and debris from flying away from the material. A shoe or footplate is set around halfway down the blade and will rest on the material itself. This allows for the cuts to be made. Adjusting the Depth of the Cut With a larger blade size of 8 ¼ inches, you can achieve greater depths when cutting at a 90-degree angle, reaching approximately 2 7/8 inches.

The heavy-duty R4513 has a maximum depth of cut of 3-½” (88.9mm) at 90 degrees and a 2-½” (63.5mm) possible depth of cut at a 45 degrees angle. The compact R45171, on the other hand, has a maximum depth of 3.375″ (85.725mm) for a 90-degree cut and 2.5″ (63.5mm) for a 45-degree one. It has a similar cutting capacity as the 15 Amp R4518 for both cutting angles.
