About this deal

The crimes herein are pretty gruesome but then you're a little torn because the victims are creeps in the process of grooming young girls. So very little sympathy abounds which won't make the work of catching someone killing them very easy, as most of the general public are happy to see them cleared off their streets. There are many twists and turns leading to an unexpected ending. A very enjoyable read and highly recommended!

Once again, she turns to forensic psychologist, Dr Georgina Cavendish, to unravel the cryptic clues. But will they be able to save the next victim from a gruesome death? We’re also fed snippets of thought from the killer. He’s so certain that he is superior and far more clever than the ‘incompetent’ police. He has another 4 victims already lined up and mimics the original murders, but we don’t know why. At first, I thought that he can be a relative of 1 of the victims who’s angry because the murders were never solved. But that would make him just as evil as the original killer and for sure that the police will concentrate their efforts on the new killers instead of on the old ones where they have already a suspect. Or not …?Partly because Sally Rigby has just been so wonderful. To send me - little old me - a signed copy of her first book, and those of two of her fellow authors, just because I have no greater talent than an ability to tell a bad joke. The least I can do after having read the book is to leave a review. But I have to be honest. And, I'm really sorry, but that means saying something critical ... Once again Sally has come through with an AWESOME read! Each case is unique in it's own way and I look forward to trying to figure out who-done-it. It’s an odd, but endearing, pairing that, especially in the first books of the series, is perilously dysfunctional. But Whitney and George, at some level, realise that they do have a real and important connection, and they both persevere to develop their professional relationship and their slow-growing personal friendship.

After reading the previous book 0, This is book 1. This book sees the then DS Whitney Walker from book 0, fast forwarded 10 years and she is now a DCI. I’m aware that I’ve not outlined the plot of Last Breath. It’s not something I’m inclined to do, as a synopsis covering that is always provided by the publisher. What I want to do is highlight the reasons why I’ve awarded this book five stars and a strong recommendation. If you enjoy UK-based police procedural crime fiction, then this is a stand-out series of books that I’m confident you’ll enjoy. Also all the male cops are either assholes or super dopey. I was unaware that was the only types of men to exist. Three gripping crime fiction thrillers featuring DCI Whitney Walker and forensic psychologist Dr Georgina Cavendish. Based on the cover, but ended up finding a new author to read, discovered two likable characters, in DCI Whitney Walker and Dr. Georgia Cavendish, add in a few red herring's, plausible suspects and even with it being easy to figure out whodunnit. I still enjoyed the read, like that the author got her hands dirty verse keeping it clean and it makes 'Deadly Games' so good or at least it was for me.Another murder in the (fictitious) town of Lenchester is offered us by prolific writer Sally Rigby (5 novels in a year and that without losing anything in quality or thrill-level!) A rich older woman is found dead in her bed, strangled with a pink chiffon scarf. A MO that resembles that of the never caught Lenchester strangler who was active in the 1980ies when he killed 6 women. There was a suspect but when he murdered his own wife and was put in jail for that, the investigations were suspended and the murders stopped. DCI Walker tries to get in touch with her old boss who was SIO on that case but he’s in Egypt. It’s unlikely that the original suspect has anything to do with this murder as the man is in his 80ies and suffering from dementia (but maybe less than he lets on?) It doesn’t take long before 2 other murders on rich elder ladies occur. What do the victims have in common; gardening, art, volunteer work, clubs, …?

The author starts the book with Whitney’s Mum showing signs of dementia, which was extremely worrying as she is the only carer for her brain-damaged brother. This wasn’t an issue, what happens was; This was my first read from author Sally Rigby, did like Deadly Games, liked both of the main characters and can't wait to see them grow with each new book.

As with the previous novels I find Ms. Rigby's characters to ring true. Their relationships and behaviors are believable, as is their dialog. Actions of the police are interesting and believable as well. The main characters are likeable, their relationships and interactions interesting. Ms. Rigby's writing is crisp, well-paced, well researched, and enjoyable. I look forward to future installments and developments in this well written police procedural series. This is author Sally Rigby's 5th installment in her Cavendish and Walker police procedural series. It is an excellent novel, as were her prior chapters in the series. While each can be read as a stand-alone project, it entertains me to see the progression of development of its primary characters, and their relationships. Really, really bad. I did like the growing friendship between the police officer, DCI Whitney Walker, and the forensic psychologist, Dr Georgina Cavendish. They are quite different, with Whitney being a working class single mother who dropped out before taking her A-levels when she got pregnant very young, and George being a well-educated, middle-class academic. They clash at first (mainly because Whitney has a huge chip on her shoulder, but also because George is pretty entitled and just cannot understand why the police aren't rushing to accept the help of a random psychologist who's never worked on a real-life investigation), but then their friendship develops quite organically and in a way that felt believable. After a teenage boy is found dead on a Lenchester train, Detective Chief Inspector Whitney Walker believes they’re being targeted by the notorious Carriage Killer, who chooses a local rail network, commits four murders, and moves on. Ah, another great story starring DCI Whitney Walker and Dr Georgina (George) Cavendish. If I haven't mentioned it before you would do well to start your journey with Sally Rigby's books about this pair of crime busters with book 1 "Deadly Games".

They made Georgina an uptight bitch and her bf is a POS tbh he is a terrible partner and just seems to be not a nice man even before she got him cheating. He was a jerk to her almost constantly. In this installment of the series, there has been a new death investigation that looks very similar to a series of unsolved murders some 30 or more years ago. DCI Walker, who has been helping her Superintendent with his administrative duties because of his family needs, finds she must postpone some of that work to proceed with the investigation. She also reaches out to her colleague, Dr. Cavendish, to request her assistance as consultant. Surprisingly, Walker finds George distant and evasive. George does agree to assist, but Walker is disturbed by George's behavior. The main character, Whitney, is insufferable and not a good cop, she arrested the first suspect she talked to bc he had porn on his computer and used an escort service. Another good book in the series is called Final Verdict. A killer is on the loose and they are targeting lawyers. Walker is struggling to find a motive in the case and each lead seems to lead to a dead end. The killer is using lethal injection and there is something linking these cases that Walker isn’t seeing. Cavendish comes on board to investigate as the two hope to close in on the killer before they strike again.
