About this deal

Whereupon God speaks to the magician (from Dalet and Gimel), and the Magician speaks to God (Samekh and Pe), and the two become one (Teth and Gimel). STEP FOUR. To your right visualize a figure dressed in scarlet with green highlights... [Y]ou should feel heat coming from this direction. Say, On my right hand, Mee-chai-EL (vibrate the name. The "CH" is a guttural sound as in the German "ach" or the Scottish "loch"). As a form of prayer the invoking ritual should be used in the morning and the banishing in the evening. There are many more depths of meaning to the cross, which further reflection and contemplation can reveal. It is not merely a Christian sectarian icon. Probably the most thorough work on this subject is Rene Guenon's Symbolism of the Cross.

Make the invoking Pentagram of Fire, visualized in red light. Vibrate OIP TEAA PEDOCE while drawing Pentagram. Draw Leo symbol within Pentagram. Vibrate ELOHIM while making this symbol. Give the sign of Thoum-ash-Neith. The change in God names and the use of the specific elemental Pentagrams are the most important distinctions that differentiate the Greater Pentagram Ritual from the Lesser. The grade signs and other embellishments add emphasis on the particular elements, so as to increase the concentration of the invocation. The Supreme Invoking Ritual of the Pentagram, an elaboration on the GRP from the Golden Dawn's successor group the Stella Mautina, is identical to the GRP except for a few additional such emphases. The sign of the element Air is the sign of Shu. This is the Egyptian deity of the atmosphere who stands separating the Sky (Nuit) and the Earth (Seb), allowing for the world to come into being in the space created between them. This represents the 'creation' or awareness of the world which is made possible by the minds ability to make distinctions, the rational faculty being represented by Air. The sign is made by imitating the posture of Shu holding up the sky. The hands are held above the head as if supporting an object, the elbows forming a right angle.Point of Teth and Gimel: This creates a cross from Kether to Yesod, and Chesed to Geburah. 5=6 and the pentagrams and hexagrams are realized. Also, the center of the QBL, where ones HGA is considered.

The QBL orients you to the elements within the body. And since the Pentagram Ritual is traced with the Right hand, it tells you that you are working on and with the Astral (Fire).STEP FIVE. To your lift visualize a figure dressed in greens and browns on a fertile landscape...Say, And on my left hand Ohr-ree-EL (vibrate the name). There is one more absolutely critical point to clear up about this process in regards to the actual experience of doing the rituals. IAO is a name of God used by the Gnostics. In the Thelemic tradition it is a divine name appropriate to Tiphareth. It also conceals a formula of justification through suffering which will be discussed at more length in chapter 12.

Make the invoking Pentagram of Earth, visualized in green light. Vibrate ADONAI. Give the sign of Set Fighting.Present spirituality as a creative individual art form, a realm of scientific experiment, and a wide world to be explored by each student in their own unique way, instead of as a set dogma or creed. Both the Pentagram and Hexagram rituals have "lesser" and "greater" forms. This can easily lead somebody to think that the greater forms are "mo betta," and that you get them when you become super cool and powerful enough, at which point you can drop the lesser forms. The LBRP is used to clear one's working space - whether that be oneself, the Circle, Temple, or the Universe in general - of negative influences. In the Golden Dawn it is taught to Neophytes as a daily ritual so that they may learn to banish harmful forces from their immediate situation, and from their whole lives in general.

There seems no real reason why the archangels are omitted at the quarters, other than that the Spirit Pentagrams are perhaps supposed to fill the same role of symbolizing Briah. Depending on their preferences, individual magicians can fill in this step using the wording from the LRP. For Banishing use the same Ritual, but reversing the direction of the lines of the Pentagram. [2] [3] With that basic theory out of the way, let's clear up some common points of confusion. Lesser vs. Greater There are a number of immediately perceivable symbolic meanings to the Pentagram's form. It has five points, representing the four elements and Spirit. It is drawn with a unicursal, or single unbroken line, which shows the unbroken unity of that Spirit with its elemental emanations. The figure fits exactly inscribed within a circle, also demonstrating its dependence from the divine unity. It is in the shape of a human being, which shows the identity of the symbol with the magician themselves. It is in the traditional shape of a star. As it is written in The Book of the Law, " Every man and every woman is a star." [AL I: 3] The five points also represent the fifth Sephirah Geburah, showing the active power of the magician over the elements in service of the consciousness of the Angel. The five points carry the same meaning as the cross of the elements with the center point representing spirit. Additionally, the Egyptians used a five pointed star to represent the goddess Nuit. Nuit, in The Book of the Law, states that her symbol is, " The Five Pointed Star, with a Circle in the Middle, & the circle is Red." [AL I: 60]

A Course in High Magick

STEP TWO. Inhale through the nose. As you do, feel energy flow from the ends of the universe through your nose and body, and down and out of the bottoms of your feet to the center of the Earth...As you inhale, both hands should be raised to the sides of your head by your ears. The dagger (or right-hand index finger) should be pointing forward. Your left hand (which should have remained at your side until now) is drawn into a similar position by your left ear, the index finger pointing forward, the rest of the fingers closed into a fist. According to Crowley's notes (above), the purpose of the LBRP is to protect the Aura, placing one in a box or body (Astral Body = Light Body = Body of Light). Being at the intersection of Samekh and Pe also denotes this is taking place in the Astral since Hod and Netzach are on the Astral Plane. (Note: Yesod is on the Etheric Plane, Malkuth on the Physical Plane, Tipareth on the Mental Plane.) The QBL orienting you to fire being on your right shoulder and the ritual being drawn with the right hand also emphasizes this is an astral ritual. (See A. E. Powell for extensive writing of the 4 bodies.) The 4 blue flaming pentagrams some say is an equilibration of Chesed (4) and Giborah (5). Which, when drawing an equilateral pentagram on the Tree of Life, points to the intersection of Samekh and Pe, ruled by Mars (Giborah) and Sagittarius [ruled by Jupiter]). The LVX Signs, which are common to both lesser and greater hexagrams, center the operator within the lower five Sephira of the Tree of Life, and balance their conscious and terrestrial personality in accordance with the general initiatory current of the present epoch. There are forms of the LVX signs for both the Aeon of Osiris as well as that of Horus; the latter are not the NOX signs. (If this is all Greek to you, don't worry about it for now—just do the traditional LVX signs; you can read more in Eshelman's Pearls of Wisdom. STEP SEVEN. Complete the circle by connecting a white line from the North to the East where you began...[Return to the middle of your area.]
