About this deal

Just before D Day, large white overpainted markings were added to speed supply chains. These are 2 inches tall - 0.66mm in 1/76 so are just about visible as letters and numbers. The codes were short - usually 3-6 characters. Boxes in NWE would mostly carry these markings. (Vehicle WD numbers are 3.5 inch) Markings on all were yellow, with 3/4 inch lettering normally, which is 0.25mm in 1/76 so really has to be just a line of dots representing the pattern. There were standard drawings for the stencilling for each type and filling. I have an affinity for ordnance and it's related ancillaries so I have a hard time passing by ammo boxes because they normally have interesting markings and a very military look. As that Box 3 has no visible means of support holding it on to the vehicle in its very precarious position and it appears to be holding other boxes in place too, I would bet that it's a cut-down Box 2 bolted to the rear hull - using the panel securing bolts visible on the other side - and used as a stowage box. Although a longer box would fit in the space, cutting it to that size keeps the catches in the middle of the lid. photo with original and repro sample). It is a simple box to look at, but takes a lot of time to reproduce
