The Speyside distillery, located near Strathisla in Keith, produces a light and fruity style of single malt that’s predominantly used in the Chivas Regal, Passport and 100 Pipers blends. The distillery was mothballed in 1999, but was reopened in 2013 by Chivas Brothers’ owner Pernod Ricard following a complete refurbishment. When age statements first began disappearing from supermarket shelves there was a definite feeling they were being replaced by inferior alternatives. Over the last year or two, however, I feel like my occasional dips into the bargain bin have come up with better results, possibly due in part to the success Aldi & co have enjoyed with their budget-friendly range. The Glen Keith Distillery Edition certainly isn’t an all-time classic but it’s a very drinkable, very enjoyable wee dram that really has me wondering exactly what else this distillery is capable of. Would love to see the development of a larger range with this as the entry point. In the meantime, however, please do consider Glen Keith if you happen to be shopping on a limited budget. You may find it a more complex, more rewarding dram than you perhaps expect.

No partnership, joint venture, agency, or employment relationship is created as a result of your use of the Service. Glen Keith is a prime example. A fairly new arrival at the time of its inception after a period of slumber for distillery building on Speyside. Previously a flour mill, it is often overlooked in favour of the nearby Strathisla distillery which possesses the fairy tale exterior for any Scottish distillery visitor. Any distillery would be overshadowed by such a nearby glamorous presence. If only those looks matched the whisky it produces, eh? The launch of Glen Keith as a single malt follows those of Chivas Brothers stablemates Glenburgie, Glentauchersand Miltonduff. Nose: very accessible, but very attractive as well. A mix of vanilla cake with sweet orchard fruits (apricots, juicy pears, grapes) and light tropical touches (bananas, vitamin juice). Honeyed corn flakes. A hint of Belgian Tripel as well (specifically Karmeliet). Smell: Toffee apples. Pear. Caramel. Orange. Plenty of honey. Malt. Digestive biscuits. Pencil shavings. Oak.Our Service is an online platform which provides Members with information (e.g. bottle facts, market-indices, market values and prices) on (mostly) whisky and allows Members to add information to the platform. We do not sell, nor does the Service provide any option to buy, any alcoholic products. Glen Keith stands on the riverbank beside a deep pool known as leum a’ bhradain– Scots’ Gaelic for “the leap of the salmon”, a natural event that takes place every Autumn. Though it contrasts dramatically in age from its neighbour Strathisla (one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland), the buildings that house it are of such traditional design as to effectively mask its comparative youth. Completed in 1958, Glen Keith was the first distillery to open in Speyside post the whisky boom in the 1890’s.

It’s called Glen Keith Distillery Edition which is a very nondescript name for a bottling that’s widely available outside of the distillery. Much like the mention ‘distilled by master craftsmen’.Without prejudice to the section Liability below, the Service may be temporarily unavailable during maintenance, updates, etc. We shall make reasonable efforts to inform you of any unavailability due to maintenance or updates. Mouth: more middle-of-the-road now. Plenty of malty notes, vanilla custard, nectarines and hints of bourbon wood (faintly plankish, almost perfumed). Grassy notes, ginger and a bit of chocolate in the end. We may sell, license, transfer, assign or in any other way dispose of the Service (including Members) to any third party without any notification to you, e.g. (but without limitation) in connection with any reorganization, restructuring, merger or sale, or other transfer of assets.

If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, the remainder of the Terms shall continue in full force and effect. The Service has been prepared by us solely for information purposes to Members and the Service is based on information we consider reliable and we obtain the contents of the Service from a number of different third party sources (including Contributions), but we do not endorse, support, represent, warrant or guarantee the completeness, truthfulness, accuracy, or reliability of the Services and any information therein.

Glen Keith Distillery Details

James Middleton, channel director for impulse at Pernod Ricard UK, said the launch of Glen Keith Distillery Edition follows a 90% increase in sales of single malt Scotch whisky in the UK impulse segment in the eight weeks leading up to Christmas last year. In 1999 Glen Keith Distillery was mothballed. New owners overhauled and refurbished the distillery reopening it in 2013. Among its experimental features was the first microprocessor; this chip controlled all aspects of production. Glen Keith experimented with triple distillation and has been rumoured to produce mash bills from grains other than barley.
