There is no public beach on Bear Pond, but the town fathers have set aside a small area at the south end of the pond for public access. Turner’s Bear Pond is located just off Route 19 and is most well-known for its clean beaches and excellent year-round fishing. While only 250 acres in surface area and four miles in circumference, Bear Pond is 72 feet deep. Mid-spring to early summer is the best time for planting, once the water has warmed a little and plants are starting into growth. Pollinator-friendly marginals – such aslesser spearwort ( Ranunculus flammula), flowering rush ( Butomus umbellatus) and marsh marigolds ( Caltha palustris), whose flowers will attract bees, hoverflies and more.
