About this deal

While we can’t confirm this currently, we’ve been told that the blade guard and main frame of the drone will be purchasable as replacements from DJI, allowing owners to replace them if they have an unfortunate accident. The DJI Avata Pro-View and Fly Smart Combos are identical outside of one key component, the Goggles included with each combo. Whilst the Fly Smart Combo ships with older DJI FPV Goggles V2, the Pro-View Combo includes the brand new, redesigned DJI Goggles 2. Engineered to be lighter, more comfortable and provide a greater user experience during flight, these new Goggles feature 1080p micro-OLED displays and provide the best possible way to experience FPV. Similarly, all the modes are a little slower than its predecessor, with 'Normal' mode only offering 8m/s and sport mode 14m/s. And, climbing is capped at just 6m/s irrespective of mode, where the FPV had no limit on climb rate in manual mode and 15m/s in Sport.

DJI Goggles 2 support diopter adjustment from -8.0 D to +2.0 D and also come with free eyeglass frames. I had similar safety concerns around the DJI FPV Combo, though it at least includes forward-facing obstacle sensors that allow for safer use around people. The Avata has downward-facing ToF IR sensors to make high-speed, ground-hugging flights possible, but don’t offer protection in other directions. The sensors also improve stability when flying indoors without a GPS assist—the drone is smart enough to slow down when it's flying in tight confines, a plus if you're trying to recreate the Tesla Gigafactory Cinewhoop tour video for fun or profit, or if you simply want to see if you can fly through your house without damaging anything.Compatible with DJI FPV Remote Controller 2, which is sold separately, and the DJI Motion Controller. DJI RC Motion 2 currently does not support the DJI Virtual Flight app. The DJI FPV is great for flying in challenging conditions where more power and range might be needed. With its amazing speed, it will satisfy those looking for a more thrilling flight. However, the DJI Avata is going to suit more people with its compact, friendly design, and better camera quality. The main difference between these Goggles and the ones you might use with a standard FPV are that DJI's ones have a cut-down version of the DJI Fly app, which means you can fly the drone without a mobile phone or tablet attached. There are multiple ways to buy the DJI Avata FPV, though which of these you need depends on if you own the original FPV hardware and what Goggles you'd like to use it with.

The Goggles 2 are an upgraded version of the DJI FPV Goggles V2 (which come in the Fly Smart Combo; more on this shortly). They feature diopter adjustment, upgraded display, wireless streaming, a lighter design, two 1080p Micro-OLED screens, a 100Hz refresh rate, low-latency transmission and up to two hours of runtime. Why DJI called these the Goggles 2 when they already have a Goggles V2 is beyond us, but it seems destined to confuse DJI’s customers. Beneath the Avata are two downward-looking sensors for accurately calculating the distance from the ground using binocular vision to build a ToF (time of flight) map of the ground beneath the drone. Drone Only: Ideal for FPV operators who already have compatible goggles and controllers, but want to fly the DJI Avata. Fly Smart Combo provides a more cost-effective FPV ecosystem, coming with the drone, Motion Controller and DJI FPV Googles V2;The through-the-camera view shows a sharp, smooth perspective, with low enough lag to make high-speed flight possible. DJI doesn't specify a latency in milliseconds, but the 1080p/100fps feed feels real-time to me. For the most part, the video feed is clear and sharp, but I did note some garbling and resolution loss when the transmission signal weakened. If you opt for the kit with the older FPV Goggles V2, you're limited to 810p resolution. DJI Goggles 2 support Wi-Fi wireless streaming to display videos from mainstream video software using DLNA protocol. DJI Avata is compatible with DJI Goggles 2, DJI Goggles Integra, DJI FPV Goggles V2, DJI FPV Remote Controller 2, DJI RC Motion 2, and the DJI Motion Controller. As humans don’t come with consistently-specced eyes, the Goggles 2 allows for both a degree of optical adjustment along with Interpupillary Distance changes. The DJI FPV and Avata have high-performance motors, and the propellers make a significant amount of noise when compared to slower DJI drones. The Avata’s smaller propellers create a higher pitch than the FPV, which makes it more noticeable.

The sensor here is a significant upgrade over what came before with a 1/1.7in sensor compared to the 1/2.3in on the DJI FPV. The use of inches is somewhat confusing for sensor sizes, but the Avata camera has almost 64% more surface area to capture light, with a 43mm-squared area compared to 28.46mm-squared. Where the DJI FPV sensor had only 12MP resolution, the new sensor has 48MP. However, we suspect it has a similar number multiplied by the clever use of oversampling filters rather than having 48MP sensor elements. This enhancement makes for crisper video and much cleaner still images. One factor to consider is future proofing the investment in your gear. By opting for the latest generation of gear, in this case the Pro-View Combo, chances are your goggles will receive updates and be supported longer than the older DJI FPV Goggles V2. This means that the DJI Goggles 2 are more likely to support any future FPV drones DJI brings to market. When using the standard DJI Motion Controller in one of the combos, you can perform motion control on the aircraft. That is, you can turn your wrist to control the direction of flight, and the aircraft will fly wherever you point to. You can also press the accelerator to control the speed of flying forward, or release the accelerator to let the aircraft hover in place. The control is intuitive and easy-to-learn. After flying the Avata, I have some real questions about its safety—despite DJI's smart decision to make propeller guards part of the airframe itself. My concern is more about the speed and most likely use cases for the drone: Let's face it, you're getting this one to experience the thrill of low-altitude flight or to nab a Sam Raimi-style effects shot for your indie horror film, not for real estate photography or aerial landscape footage.

Ottieni filmati davvero unici mentre ti muovi tra i rami, sotto i ponti e attraverso stretti corridoi, riprendendo in luoghi precedentemente inaccessibili. Tested in an outdoor open environment without interference. The video transmission latency varies with different goggles. DJI FPV Goggles V2 can achieve video transmission of up to 810p. When you use DJI FPV Goggles V2 with the 810p/120fps video transmission, the lowest video transmission latency is less than 28 ms. The below table provides a side-by-side comparison of some of the key specs of the DJI Goggles 2 and DJI FPV Goggles V2 to further illustrate the differences between the two.

The DJI FPV’s lower pitch is less noticeable, but the drone makes a curious power-up sound where the motors vibrate in a somewhat ominous-sounding trill that’s reminiscent of sci-fi movies. The Avata powers on with a subtle vibration of the motors and a cheerful chime. Which has the best camera? The critical issue here is that this type of flying is a major departure from flying camera drones, and not all pilots will instantly enjoy it. If you discover that FPV flying isn’t for you, then this could be a very expensive mistake.
