About this deal

Whether this level of brightness is good or bad has a lot to do with how, and where, you use the monitor. Brightness felt excellent when placed in my darkly lit home theater but remained less impressive in my office.

Enjoy High Performance with LCD LED Monitors high performance for dual work as well as play purpose. Thankfully, you don’t need to dedicate an extra desk space to speakers with the UltraGear 48-inch OLED. The built-in speakers are fantastic, with deep resonant bass, a ton of volume, and clarity in the mids and highs. They’re not on the level of the best PC speakers, but I played through some Destiny 2and Tales of Ariseon the built-in speakers, and I don’t have any complaints.

NVIDIA® G-SYNC® Compatible

Information about the brightness of the screen. It is measured in candela per square metre (cd/m²). Because of these differences, the LG Ultragear 48GQ900-B is better for playing games or viewing content on a PC, while the LG C2 OLED is superior for streaming, 4K Blu-Ray movies, and over-the-air TV. DCI P3 is a color space, introduced in 2007 by the SMPTE. It is used in digital cinema and has a much wider gamut than the sRGB.

The ratio between the horizontal and the vertical side of the display. Some of the standard and widely used aspect ratios are 4:3, 5:4, 16:9 and 16:10.

Full-screen Gaming Experience

Often even a higher peak luminance can be achieved under certain conditions. For example, when a smaller area/APL of the display is used for showing a bright object, when a bright object is displayed for a short time, etc.

Brightness takes a hit, though, which is why the UltraGear 48-inch OLED is so dim. Glare is a big issue as it usually is with OLED panels, so a brighter monitor like the Alienware 34 QD-OLED is better if you’re in a bright room. The matte anti-glare coating helps with reflections a bit, much more than the glossy finish seen on LG’s OLED TVs, but brightness is the main issue here. Still, you’re getting spectacular HDR performance. The UltraGear 48-inch OLED is an HDR monster on the level of the top OLED TVs. It’s transformative for moody games like Destiny 2, and it makes the best HDR games like Cyberpunk 2077 pop off the screen. Jacob Roach / Digital Trends Work more efficiently with LG's Office computer monitors that are ultra-clear and wide, offering true color contrast and detail at any angle. Dimensions, weight and color Information about the dimensions and the weight of the specific model with and without stand as well as the colors, in which it is offered to the market. WidthInformation about the minimum amount of time, in which the pixels change from one color to another. Very often the manufacturer provides the response time for transition from grey-to-grey (G2G). LG’s exclusive DAS feature is a welcome addition, even if it doesn’t make a ton of sense on a screen like this. DAS essentially allows the monitor to bypass buffering through your cable, shooting data over the cable as the panel refreshes for a real-time sync. It’s a feature of esports monitors, but going for a higher refresh rate like the one offered on the Asus ROG Swift PG32UQX will provide more up-to-date information for the most competitive players.

Playing games with such a fast, bright panel is an outstanding experience that’s only made better by the stellar picture quality. The colors are deep, vibrant, and engaging in HDR. Playing through Doom Eternal was a treat for the eyes topped only by my first foray in Spider-Man: Remastered. To begin, I tested the monitor’s responsiveness using BlurBusters UFO Test. The results were phenomenal. In the picture above, you can see there were virtually no ghosts whatsoever. The bottom row exhibited minor overshoot that is completely imperceptible in normal use. These are the results I would expect to see from an expensive OLED panel and LG doesn’t disappoint. Information about the number of pixels on the horizontal and vertical side of the screen. A higher resolution allows the display of a more detailed and of higher quality image. There are tools like AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) and Nvidia’s Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) to help with performance, but the size of the UltraGear 48-inch OLED limits their effectiveness. Even at native resolution, it’s much easier to spot aliasing on the screen a s the pixel density goes through the floor compared to something like a 27-inch 4K monitor. That grittiness isn’t coming from film grain in Cyberpunk 2077. Jacob Roach / Digital Trends Desktop monitors and smart TVs experience a latency/lag in visualizing the information. The time in milliseconds that the display needs to visualize the signal input.

Strapping the colorimeter on the screen, it’s clear why OLED is such a destination for gaming and other forms of media. LG advertises a typical brightness of 135 nits, but I measured closer to 180 nits. That sounds low, but it’s not the brightness that matters with OLED. It’s about the contrast. The UltraGear 48-inch OLED has a contrast ratio of somewhere above 1,000,000:1. My SpyderX only measured around 600,000:1, but it really doesn’t matter. The LG Ultragear 48GQ900-B has built-in speakers. They’re much better than what is typical of a monitor and sound good in general use at middling volume, but audio quality takes a dive as volume increases. The mid-range becomes muddy and harsh. Explosions in an action movie, for instance, sound more akin to static. It’s fine on a desktop, where it’s more likely to be used at low volume, but not suited for home theater. The storage humidity shows the lower and upper humidity limit, which ensures safe storage of the display. Storing it outside these limits might damage the display. The operating temperature shows the safe temperature range (from minimum to maximum), within which the display will function flawlessly. Outside this range it might operate improperly and/or fail entirely.
