About this deal

Guaifenesin: Has been linked with an increased risk of neural tube defects in a small number of women with febrile illness in the first trimester of pregnancy. The product should be used in pregnancy only if the benefit outweighs the potential risk to the foetus. There is no information on use in lactation. Paracetamol is generally considered safe for use during pregnancy. However, the safety of pseudoephedrine has not been established and some studies have suggested that use of pseudoephedrine in the first trimester may be associated with defective closure of the abdominal wall (gastroschisis) in the baby. As a result, Lemsip max flu lemon is not usually recommended for use by women who are pregnant. Get further medical advice from your doctor, pharmacist or midwife.

If you take paracetamol in the hour before or the six hours after taking colestyramine, the paracetamol is likely to be less effective. This is because colestyramine reduces the absorption of paracetamol from the gut. You should avoid taking Lemsip max capsules one hour before or six hours after taking colestyramine. Liver damage is possible in adults who have taken 10 g or more of paracetamol. Ingestion of 5 g or more of paracetamol may lead to liver damage if the patient has risk factors (see below). Medicines and their possible side effects can affect individual people in different ways. The following are some of the side effects that may be associated with pseudoephedrine and paracetamol. Just because a side effect is stated here doesn't mean that all people taking Lemsip max flu lemon will experience that or any side effect.Shriner K, Goetz MB. Severe hepatotoxicity in a patient receiving both acetaminophen and zidovudine. Am J Med. 1992;93:94-6. LEMSIP MAX COLD & FLU CAPSULES: Each capsule contains Paracetamol 500 mg, Caffeine 25 mg Phenylephrine hydrochloride 6.1 mg influenza, including the relief of aches and pains, sore throat, headache, nasal congestion, lowering of temperature and chesty coughs Expectorants such as guaifenesin are used to treat a productive, chesty or mucus cough, where you cough up phlegm. Guaifenesin helps to thin and loosen the mucus in the airways, making it easier to cough up. Bonkovsky HL, Kane RE, Jones DP, Galinsky RE, Banner B. Acute hepatic and renal toxicity from low doses of acetaminophen in the absence of alcohol abuse or malnutrition - evidence for increased susceptibility to drug toxicity due to cardiopulmonary and renal insufficiency. Hepatology. 1994;19:1141-8.

This product contains 129.0mg (5.61mmol) sodium per dose – to be taken into consideration for patients on a controlled sodium diet. Adults aged 16 years and over should take two capsules every four to six hours as necessary, up to a maximum of four doses in 24 hours. Do not take more than eight capsules in 24 hours. If you're taking medicines for high blood pressure you shouldn't take Lemsip cough max for mucus cough and cold, because the decongestant may make your blood pressure medicine less effective. Drinking alcohol with Lemsip max flu lemon is best avoided because the combination of alcohol and paracetamol could increase the risk of side effects on your liver. Symptoms - emesis and convulsions may occur. No specific antidote. However, treatment is usually fluid therapy. Fatal poisoning is rare. If symptoms become apparent or overdose is suspected, consult a doctor immediately.Epidemiological studies in human pregnancy have shown no ill effects due to paracetamol used in the recommended dosage, but patients should follow the advice of their doctor regarding its use. Phenylephrine overdose is likely to result in: nervousness, headache, dizziness, insomnia, increased blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, reflex bradycardia, mydriasis, acute angle closure glaucoma (most likely to occur in those with closed angle glaucoma), tachycardia, palpitations, allergic reactions (e.g. rash, urticaria, allergic dermatitis), dysuria, urinary retention (most likely to occur in those with bladder outlet obstruction, such as prostatic hypertrophy). Paracetamol is thought to relieve pain by reducing the production of prostaglandins in the brain and spinal cord. It works to bring down a fever by affecting an area of the brain that regulates our body temperature (the hypothalamic heat-regulating center). This stops you feeling hot or shivery. The product should not be used during pregnancy unless recommended by a healthcare professional (see section 4.6).

This product contains 1973.3mg sucrose per dose (total sugars 2g). Patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not take this medicine.

Summary of medicine characteristics - LEMSIP COUGH MAX FOR CHESTY COUGH & COLD RELIEF CAPSULES

The medicine comes as capsules and sachets for making hot drinks. Both are licensed for adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over. An overdose of paracetamol is dangerous and capable of causing serious damage to the liver and kidneys. Never exceed the recommended dose of Lemsip max flu lemon. Get immediate medical advice in the event of an overdose with this medicine, even if you feel well, because of the risk of delayed, serious liver damage.
