From organic to super-premium, vodka brands were awarded top medals for their quality The brand’s Alphonso Mango-flavoured vodka was judged the best UK Flavoured Vodka at the World Drinks Awards, moving on to compete for the title of World’s Best Flavoured Vodka against other country winners.

Desi Daru, the British-Indian inspired ultra-premium vodka brand, is thrilled to announce its further UK expansion as they secure a listing with luxury retailer Harvey Nichols.Prousaefs was particularly enamoured of Summum Single Estate Vodka: “Very smooth, crisp and light on the nose and palate. Super easy going and easy to drink, with an almost excellent mouthfeel and lasting finish.” The Vodka – Rye category brought another Master medallist to the table: Belvedere Organic Infusions Pear & Ginger. The judges agreed that these were not the easiest flavours to get right, but were impressed by the authenticity of the pear and ginger. Dixon said: “This was an interesting flavour combination with attractive aromas of both flavour components.”

The competition progressed to Vodka – Grain, in which a Silver medal was awarded to Pur Sang Select, with “earthy cereal” notes. In the following flight, Vodka – Wheat, two more Silvers were celebrated: “classic, creamy” Skyy Vodka, and Altamura Distilleries Vodka, with its “waxy body”. Sitting at 40% ABV, Louers is distilled six times and is filtered through 12 layers of superfine charcoal dust, with each bottle then individually composed, bottled and numbered by Dutch producers. Fellow Gold medallist Saaremaa Vodka delivered a “creamy mouthfeel with a hint of sugar syrup and underlying cereal notes”. Two Silver medals were also awarded in this flight. Sparvoli said: “For the price I would say I was positively impressed.” This is the second award for the mango vodka, which has won a Spirits Business Global Vodka Masters Awardand been scored 96 points by the International Drinks Specialists.

Melita Kiely, editor of The Spirits Business, and chair of The Global Spirits Masters Competitions (GMSC) led the third panel, which included: Matt Chambers, spirits writer and co-founder of the Whisky For Everyone blog; Joyce Chou, Wine & Spirit Education Trust’s translation project manager; Zaloren Gonzalez Fontes, assistant manager of Hometipple; and Herchelle Perez Terrado, founder of Drinks Partnership. Three Silvers were given out in the penultimate flight, Flavoured/Infused Vodka-Based Spirit Drink, including two for White Claw Spirits Co. Showing that good things do indeed come in threes, Nykur’s vodka, hailing from the Faroe Islands, was the third and final bottle in the Organic round deemed worthy of Masters medal. On a mission to find the best vodkas on the market, this summer three panels of judges gathered at the Hippodrome in London to decide which entrants would receive coveted medals in our annual Vodka Masters blind tasting competition. Eleven Golds were given out, including one to Neft Vodka, enjoyed for its “smooth palate with a nice body and texture”, and Sapling Climate Positive Vodka, with its nose of “fresh and toasted grain” and “nutty sweetness” on the palate.

The first went to Desi Daru Mango Vodka, which Rodriguez-Curtis enjoyed for its “fleshy and vibrant” nose. He said: “The palate is smooth, pleasant, good level of mango flavour and good level of enjoyability. The mango has a brilliant freshness. Chilled out of the fridge or freezer, this vodka would be brilliant to enjoy.” Premium vodka brand Desi Daru Vodka has announced its continued expansion within the London bar scene. The 2023 ADI winners highlighted an impressive class of up-and-coming distillers. Some winners are well-known craft distillers, while others are relatively new with limited national distribution. Besides impressing the judges with its sustainable principles, this vodka proved it was easy on the mouth and nose too, with one judge praising its “floral bubblegum’’ and “tart tannic grape” notes, that came with ”lots of almond and cherry”.
