Fusing the brand’s renowned water-resistance flywheel, the rowing experience is as handsome as the highly polished American Cherry wood from which this unit is fashioned. Offering a gloriously gentle “whoosh” with every stroke, the rowing sensation is about as close to skimming across a picturesque pond as it gets. However, for longer workouts – anything over 15 minutes – the seat begins to feel hard and both my wife and I noticed that the seat rubbed on our skin and was painful after the workout. That makes it sound like we were rowing naked – we weren’t – honestly!
Outside of device/app shenanigans, the Blade is a solid entry-level rowing machine in its own right, though more experienced users might be left wanting for more resistance levels. With a weight limit of 100kg, it should cater to most people's needs, though larger-framed users might want to go for something a little larger and heftier for additional peace of mind. Its predominantly plastic build won't win any design accolades, but once you remember the affordable price tag, it's hard to be too harsh when it comes to the build quality.The JLL R200 also has a catch release which allows you to easily fold the machine in half for storage. Rowing machines are excellent for cardio workouts that utilise the upper and lower body and the JLL R200 rowing machine is no exception. Undertaking a 30 day review of the R200 meant that we could really get to grips with it and push ourselves and the machine to its full as well as finding out if it had any funny little quirks that might become annoying over time. The dolly wheels on the WaterRower Natural Rowing Machine are a nice touch, letting you easily wheel it away and store it vertically. Although the price tag is steep, the five-year frame and three-year parts warranty are testament to what a high-quality product you’re getting. It comes with 10 levels of resistance with the top one providing a very tough workout if you are able to row at this level for a sustained period.
Once assembled and in unfolded, ready-to-use configuration it has a length of 180cm. This was ideal for us as it meant that I would be able to use it in our narrow lounge whereas a Concept 2 would’ve been way too long. Initially I found the pull to be slightly lumpy – there seemed to be an inconsistency with the resistance during the pulling motion. It has simple adjustability that lets you switch resistance from a rowing simulation to a high-resistance power development setting. The SkillRow offers interactive coaching for rowing technique, too, because even the best machine is only as good as the user’s ability to use proper technique and maximise the workout. If you are on a budget then the R200 is a great option. You definitely get a lot of value for money. When compared to other machines in its price range it certainly stands out as one of the better ones.

It’s actually pretty easy to assemble but many users have complained that the instructions provided in the manual are poor and not clear enough to follow. Overall the JLL R200 rowing machine is a fantastic entry-level machine. If you’re looking to get into shape or want an easy way to add some cardio into your training then this could be the machine for you. First things first, if you're around (or over) the six-foot mark, then Dripex's machine is unlikely to offer the most comfortable rowing experience. Taller users on the hunt for a budget machine will find something like the Yosuda rower more suitable. If your height and weight fit the bill though, then there are a few key features that make this entry stand out. The current trend among home gym equipment manufacturers is to make everything as “connected” as possible. This can simply mean the ability to connect a smartphone or tablet, but it sometimes involves large touchscreens added to the equipment for a more immersive experience.
