Wham! The Documentary is coming to the streamer on 5 July and promises to tell their story, in their own words . With unprecedented access to both George and Andrew's personal archive including remarkable and never-before-seen footage, alongside rare, candid and previously unheard interviews, WHAM! charts their incredible journey from school friends to superstars. The feature-length film is directed by Chris Smith ( Fyre Fest, Sr) and produced by John Battsek ( The Deepest Breath) and Simon Halfon ( Supersonic). George and Andrew released 11 singles as Wham!, incredibly, five of them ( Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go, Freedom, Last Christmas, I’m Your Man and The Edge Of Heaven) were British No.1s. Meanwhile, in the United States, Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go, Careless Whisper and Everything She Wants were chart toppers: remarkably, all three were from the same album, Make It Big, which sold six million copies in America alone.

Andrew Ridgley (below) appeared on BBC Breakfast this morning to talk about this exciting new release. In 1982, the best of friends and still teenagers - George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley as WHAM! set out to conquer the world. Vinyl plays really well considering it’s a picture disc - shame it looks shoddy with the wrinkled paper inside the disc.

Not a hit in June 1982 when first released, but was subsequently re-released in January 1983 (after Young Guns (Go For It!)) when it reached no.8 in the charts. Wham Rap! was rather political in a very simplistic way. The message was clear, working is for jerks. If you don’t enjoy what you do just stop “Cos the benefit gang are going to pay”. Few marks on the vinyl but tested and plays good and corners of the cover a bit damaged and a bit discoloured A double A-side with Everything She Wants, Last Christmas topped a ludicrously successful 1984 for Wham!, and George Michael in particular. Only kept off the UK no.1 spot by the Band Aid, Do They Know It’s Christmas? charity single, it sold over a million copies and is apparently the highest selling single in UK history not to get to the number one spot. The 12″“Pudding Mix” was for years the de facto standard version of the song, appearing on The Best of Wham! in 1997 as well as The Final. In fact it wasn’t until 2006 that the standard 7″ mix appeared on a Wham! /George Michael CD (his Twenty Five greatest hits album).

In other Wham! news, it’s been announced that Netflix is to screen a new documentary about the band. Another remix which replaced the standard 7″ mix on all the compilations. It’s easy to see why, since it’s far superior to the standard version which a whole extra verse at the end. George Michael has been quoted as saying that this was his favourite song from the Wham! era. Best of all, George and Andrew's friendship was as strong at the end as it was in the beginning. WHAM! never got old and they never lost their exclamation mark! Wham! The Documentary is directed by Chris Smith, who headed up Netflix's acclaimed films Fyre and Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond.The second single but the first hit. It reached no.3 in late 1982. Again, it’s the 12″ version on The Final WHAM! toured the world. The Big Tour of 1984 and '85, comprised thirty-nine shows in support of the multi-platinum British and American Number One album - Make It Big.
