a b Jones, Mike (May 5, 2016). " New Mutants Director Offers Interview With The Vampire Update". Screen Rant . Retrieved May 28, 2016. On the same note, in Memnoch The Devil, while in Hell Lestat had a vision of himself accidentally killing someone in a bar fight while drunk as a mortal. Considering Lestat's mortal obsession with mortality and goodness, somehow I doubt this would have happened without him telling us before. Also, it seems like Anne Rice is confusing him with Louis. Lestat never got into bar room brawls as a mortal. When he got drunk he got maudlin and sentimental, not violent, that's a different type of drinker all together. God Is Flawed: In that his refusal to consider letting any (other) imperfect entity into Heaven causes eternal suffering for many of the dead.

Ephebophilia: While Marius himself can't experience arousal due to the Dark Gift, he manually stimulates the adolescent Armand and surrounds himself with a troupe of boys in The Vampire Armand. Murder by Inaction: The end of Interview with the Vampire, possibly. Armand claims he couldn’t have prevented Claudia’s execution, but Louis accuses him of letting it happen because he didn’t want the rest of the coven turning on him and Claudia says he secretly wanted her dead so he could have Louis to himself. It’s left up to the reader to guess if Armand’s powers of persuasion and influence in the Theatre des Vampires would have been enough to sway a mob of angry vampires led by Santiago, who has a petty personal grudge against Louis. Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Claudia is an extreme subversion. This frail, doomed, golden-haired child doesn't die gracefully and accept her wings. Instead, she becomes an insatiable killer who delights in tormenting her innocent victims.Living Forever Is Awesome: Lestat has this attitude despite the fact he's gone through numerous horrible traumas. Most of the other Ancients are similarly of the mindset that there's no point in dying. Louis, by contrast, is really the only one who romanticizes death. At least after the Paris Satanic cult was "reformed" by Lestat. They were pretty miserable. Many vampires also believe that if they are left in the sun or burned, and their ashes are left unscattered, they will experience this. After stalking and killing Roger, a ruthless but enthrallingly passionate mobster, Lestat is approached by Roger's ghost. Roger's ghost asks him to take care of his daughter Dora, a devout and popular television evangelist, whom he wants to spare from embarrassment. At the same time, Lestat has become increasingly paranoid that he's being stalked by a powerful force. The series creates its own terminology: vampires call the transfer of vampirism to a human the "Dark Gift", and refer to the vampire bestowing it as the "maker" and the new vampire as a "fledgling". In ancient times vampires formed a religion-like cult, and in the Middle Ages, believing themselves cursed, dwelt in catacombs under cemeteries in covens which emphasized darkness and their own cursed state.

As of November 2008, The Vampire Chronicles had sold 80 million copies worldwide. [18] Adaptations [ edit ] Film [ edit ] Petski, Denise (August 25, 2021). This actually helps him seduce literally almost anyone he comes across due to his boyish looks amplified by his vampirism, which brings out their beauty ten-fold. Interview with the Vampire was released in November 1994 starring Tom Cruise as Lestat, Brad Pitt as Louis, Kirsten Dunst as Claudia and Antonio Banderas as Armand. [19]

Evil Is Not Well-Lit: The Children of Darkness don't allow themselves light and warmth (except for ceremonial bonfires) because they believe that, as servants of Satan, they don't deserve it. Ironic Hell: As shown in Memnoch the Devil, people in Hell have to suffer through the bad things they inflicted on others to gain the necessary empathy for redemption. Armand had gone through an emotional ride with Marius after being turned, but once he had been kidnapped and brainwashed by the Children of Darkness and later left them in a literal blaze of glory, they later reunite and still do deeply love each other and care about one another. And then there was the Parisian vampire tradition of burying their criminals and new fledglings alive.

Louis himself wrote the entire first book about despising (or sometimes tolerating/maybe even enjoying) Lestat only for the sequel and the following books having him being very much in love with the Brat Prince, after they finally reconciled after years apart. The title and many themes of this novel are borrowed from the 19th-century gothic novel Melmoth the Wanderer by Irish author Charles Maturin. Corruption by a Minor: Despite Louis's horror at the thought of producing a fledgling, Claudia prevails on him to turn Madeleine for her because she knows Armand will take Louis for himself. Louis does it, but says the act destroyed his last vestige of humanity.

Although the novel fits into the storyline of The Vampire Chronicles, the vast majority of it consists of Memnoch's account of cosmology and theology. The novel follows up on claims made by David in The Tale of the Body Thief that God and the Devil are on better terms than most Christians believe. It also reinterprets biblical stories to create a complete history of Earth, Heaven and Hell that fit neatly with the history of vampires given in The Queen of the Damned.
