Ocean Story Cloth Book The rest of the novel describes the protagonists' adventures aboard the Nautilus, which was built in secrecy and now roams the seas beyond the reach of land-based governments. In self-imposed exile, Captain Nemo seems to have a dual motivation— a quest for scientific knowledge and a desire to escape terrestrial civilization. Nemo explains that his submarine is electrically powered and can conduct advanced marine research; he also tells his new passengers that his secret existence means he cannot let them leave— they must remain on board permanently. How Deep is the Ocean? by Kathleen Weidner Zoehfeld: The PERFECT book to go along with an ocean unit – this book guides kids deep into the ocean as they learn all about sea animals, the strangest of creatures, and even those that hunt them!

I love incorporating books into our learning, and there are some amazing toddler booksfocusing on 'Under the Water' and 'The Ocean' themes. Some of my favorites are below. I've focused mainly on fiction books, but I really encourage you to look through some nonfiction books with your toddlers. You'll be amazed how interested they are and if you look at the pictures and ask open-ended questions they will learn so much! Let us know at the bottom which are your favourite sea creature books and we’ll update the list to include them. Hold up a flashlight to see illustrations come to life with different sea creatures and more from under the ocean. The Big Book of the Blue by Yuval Zommer: Why do octopuses have eight arms? You can also enjoy Twinkl's full collection of eBooks and supporting resources all about the sea. What animals live under the sea? The Sea Mammal Alphabet Book by Jerry Pallotta: Learn about dozens of sea mammals in this beautifully illustrated alphabet book. This book would be useful in Reception year classes and Early year classes to discuss the geography of the sea and the history of exploration. It can also lead to discussions about sea life in general and differentiating between sea creatures and mammals. As mentioned above, descriptive words are found throughout the tale, for example "Jewel Bright, eager, slinks, glide, booming", which can be utilised to discuss adjectives in English classes. The novel was originally serialized from March 1869 through June 1870 in Pierre-Jules Hetzel's fortnightly periodical, the Magasin d'éducation et de récréation. A deluxe octavo edition, published by Hetzel in November 1871, included 111 illustrations by Alphonse de Neuville and Édouard Riou. [2] The book was widely acclaimed on its release and remains so; it is regarded as one of the premier adventure novels and one of Verne's greatest works, along with Around the World in Eighty Days and Journey to the Center of the Earth. Its depiction of Captain Nemo's underwater ship, the Nautilus, is regarded as ahead of its time, since it accurately describes many features of today's submarines, which in the 1860s were comparatively primitive vessels. Let’s Explore Under the Sea! by Twinkl Originals - This non-fiction book is perfect for introducing EYFS children to the variety of sea creatures that live in the ocean.
