About this deal

If the weather is wet and cold outside, you can guarantee the temperature is warm inside. This brings condensation onto anything glass-covered. Don’t let a rainy day stop you from taking pictures! Get out and try these 15 techniques to improve as a photographer. 1. Choose the Right Equipment for Rain Photography ePTFE Fabrics: Materials like Gore-Tex (the oldest) are stretched membranes with a specific dimension designed to escape water vapor but prevent liquid from entering. This sweet spot results from the pore size (20,000 smaller than a water drop) and the low surface tension (preventing liquid water absorption without significant pressure). Moreover, rainy scenes look even better at night when all the lights create reflections. A tripod is a must-have item for taking night photos if you don’t use an external flash or light. With your camera adequately protected, you can get down to the fun part---shooting great photos! Here are some things to keep in mind:

Cityscapes do not have to be picture-perfect. You do not always need traditional correct exposure and the usual composition. Here, you can use rain to show a different side of a city. Just being there is enough: Seriously, just by getting out in more interesting weather, you're doing most of the hard work. Play around and trust your eye, and you're sure to come away with something good. Best thought of as a piece of plastic stretched very thin, ePTFE are specialty materials (polytetrafluoroethylene, to be specific) that are expanded, creating micropores that act as a filter to inhibit water penetration, but allow water vapor to be expelled. These ePTFE membranes have over 9 billion pores per square inch, each 20,000 times smaller than a water droplet, but 700 times larger than a water vapor molecule. This allows the membrane to resist water from the elements, but diffuse perspiration as it builds within the shell. The outer fabric is made of a waterproof micro rip-stop material that instantly sheds water, while the large underarm vents and adjustable hood and cuffs allow your body to breathe. Keep in mind that shooting in the rain causes less intense lighting conditions. So don’t forget to raise the ISO or set a wider aperture for correct exposure and a dramatic shot. From decades of traveling the world with my camera, I’ve learned – sometimes the hard way – that a camera rain cover is an essential part of any photographer’s kit. Here’s why: The most dramatic skies for landscape photography often occur during those brief moments before and after a storm. Either side of that moment, you’re probably going to get wet. If wildlife photography is more your cup of tea, I also have news for you: many animals don’t care about the rain. They’ll still be out there doing what they’ve got to do. A flash is a handy device to have in any photo situation. (Read articles on the best Canon flash and best Nikon flash.) And you might need extra light with all the clouds and umbrellas everywhere.

And rain is the perfect setting for a top-down shot. Reflections in puddles will make the world look upside down. In this way, water functions as a mirror and creates a collage-like effect. So you get two pictures in one. Hydrophobia 24-70 V3– For cameras with short primes, wide-angle, and standard zooms such as 24-70mm, 24-105mm, 16-35mm, or 14-24mm As a football fan, I will of course also wear it to the stadium. In my spare time it will be used in every season. Keep the front of your lens clean: If you don't do this, you won't be able to take decent photos. Even a few droplets are enough to ruin your shots, so do everything you can to keep it out of the weather. Leave the lens cap on and, when you take it off, point your camera away from the rain unless you're shooting. Also, use your lens hood.

This makes street photography more interesting. Now you have a milky scene of mystery in your shot. One way to show great rain photography is to place a subject that would not usually find its place there. Mixing rain and fire, for example, makes for a powerful and symbolic shot. Many brands in recent years have begun prioritizing breathability in their rain shells, and The North Face uses electricity to manipulate the air and moisture permeability of its offerings. FUTURELIGHT marks TNF’s take on this air-permeable process, and by our own tests, it marks a step forward in waterproof-breathable technology.

Water is hell on photography gear. Not only can it get inside and damage the fragile electronics in your camera, but just a few water droplets on your lens can make taking photos impossible. If you want to take photos in the rain, you have to pay serious attention to keeping your gear safe, dry, and usable. In striving to create the most waterproof membrane, the outdoor industry created a number of unsustainable practices which are slowly beginning to be rectified: using recycled materials, PFC-free DWR finishes, and ensuring sustainable practices are used during production. When in doubt, choose a size larger than you think you need. Many of the better quality vests will have drawstring waists and/or straps on the sides to tighten things up. The hood of the Stretch Ozonic is fairly boilerplate, with a single drawcord adjustment at the rear of the head to keep it out of your eyes. No wire-stiffened brim here, but we did enjoy the soft microfleece chin guard for when the rain really let loose and we had to retreat inside the hood.

A rain cover won’t do much to stop droplets forming on the front of your lens. That’s a problem best solved by fitting your lens hood. Also, threading your camera’s strap outside a rain cover will get it wet and compromise water resistance. A cover with an integrated strap is a much better solution.

Try photographing traffic lights through the raindrops on your car window. And see what crazy, interesting shapes you come up with. The Traveller II is made with material that is both windproof and breathable – water instantly beads off the waterproof exterior, keeping everything inside dry.
