About this deal

February 2, 2010: With a core specification of a generous 10x optical zoom, 28mm wide-angle lens, advanced CCD-shift image stabilisation system, HD image and movie capture, and 12 or 14 Megapixel resolution dependent on the model, the JZ300 and JZ500 offer an impressive feature set which will suit a wide range of consumers. While not perfect, the Fujifilm JV100 does much to impress with regards to its images. In fact, at times it can be difficult to believe that such a cheap camera is capable of capturing such a high level of detail. The level of fine detail – particularly in the centre of the frame – is impressive, while colour is very good and exposures consistent. On lower sensitivities noise is minimal, and any noise reduction that is being applied has little adverse effects. Images also display good sharpness – perhaps on the cusp of being a little too sharp, but this is only noticeable at 100% viewing. Within the JV and JX range there are two resolutions available; the FinePix JV150 boasts high resolution 14 megapixel sensors, whereas the FinePix JV100 and JX200 feature a 12 megapixel sensor.

February 2, 2010: Fujifilm is thrilled to announce the introduction of the FinePix JV100/150 and JX200, three new models that will offer consumers cutting edge style and advanced technology, plus the ability to shoot and enjoy images in High Definition. All of this is contained in a slender 18.9mm *2 metal body at an affordable price. FUJIFILM MyFinePix Studio also has a variety of editing features to enhance the quality of digital photos. It has an auto-enhancement feature, which automatically adjusts the brightness, contrast, and color of a photo. It also has a red-eye reduction feature, which helps to reduce the appearance of red-eye in photos. Additionally, it has a variety of filters, which can be used to create unique effects. Overall Cats and dogs are a commonly photographed subject and with this in mind Fujifilm has developed a new Pet Detection function to ensure perfect pictures of your cat or dog. Much like Face Detection technology, Pet Detection can recognise cats’ and dogs’ faces and optimises focus and exposure. Plus, there’s an Auto Shutter Release function that automatically takes a photo when your four-legged friend looks at the camera, so you don’t miss that precious shot. And, for those occasions when stills don’t do a moment justice, HD Movie Mode with sound lets you record those precious memories and relive them time and time again in glorious HD resolution. It’s in good light, however, that the camera also shows its shortcomings. It’s perhaps just as well that camera’s lens starts from 37mm as even at this focal length the camera shows its poor control over flare, which gives rise to a general loss of contrast. The camera’s limited dynamic range is also clear with the loss of highlight detail, while its propensity to use flash in macro mode can result in unnaturally looking close up images. Throughout the test the red-eye reduction feature also failed to completely eliminate red-eye in some subjects. Verdict

Fujifilm FinePix JV300 - Q&A

Ensuring silky smooth skin tones & banishing blemishes is easy with Fujifilm's Portrait enhancer mode. Using Fujifilm's proprietary “Double Noise Reduction” image processing and Face Detection technology, it captures and retouches your portraits without any intervention needed. The JX200 features a high-quality Fujinon 5x optical zoom with 28mm wide-angle lens, plus there’s Digital Image Stabilisation to ensure image blurring is kept to a minimum, while JV models (JV100/150) have 3x Fujinon optics (37-111mm equivalent).

Thinnest point. 18.9mm is JV and 18.5 for JX. CIPAStandard is 93.0mm×55.0mm×22.9mm for JX and 93.0mm x 55.0mm x 22.9mm for (JV).There’s also a Scene Detection mode which analyses the elements within a scene before choosing one of six categories. This, Fujifilm claims, allows it to select the most appropriate settings with regards to colour, depth of field and white balance, among other options. With HD image and video capture the new JX and JV cameras will produce stunning, detailed images that can be enjoyed in glorious High Definition on any HD ready television * or PC.

With a modern and clean interface, it is designed to be simple and intuitive for novice users. Many necessary functions located in the main window; that includes a few basic functions, such as adding photos, sorting, and printing. The editing functions are located in the main window which allows you to perform basic editing options such as cropping, resizing, and adjusting the brightness and contrast of a photo.Another new feature is Blink Detection warns you if you have captured an image with people blinking, so you can re-shoot if necessary. Scene Recognition Auto (SR AUTO) ensures that you get a good picture every time. It intelligently detects the scene type and shooting conditions, and optimises the camera’s focus, exposure and white balance to achieve perfect results. So whether you’re photographing flowers or shooting a holiday landscape, you will get flawless photos at the press of a button. Or if you prefer you can choose one of 13 programmed scene modes for extra control. There’s little surprise at the inclusion of the now-standard Face Detection, but Fujifilm has complemented this with Blink Detection and a Smile and Shoot mode. The former alerts the user when a blinking subjects has been detected, while the latter automatically trips the shutter release once the subject can be seen smiling.

Also worth noting that processing of RAW images from your device is the main point of using software like this without shelling out for expensive processing suites like Adobe Lightroom. There’s also no image stabilisation with either the lens or the sensor, but a sensitivity-based system is available, which adjusts the ISO for a faster shutter speed where necessary.

Why buy from MemoryCow?

The two new A series compacts are divided in to two categories dependent on their zoom capabilities. The 12 megapixel AV100 boasts a 3x Fujinon zoom, whilst the 14 megapixel AX280 features a versatile Fujinon 5x, 28mm wide-angle zoom lens. While some purple fringing and general chromatic aberrations are visible in scenes with high contrast, overall chromatic aberrations are well controlled. Sharpness is also well maintained to the edges of the frame. Despite the inclusion of some ‘latest technologies’, the Fujifilm JV100 is built around a fairly standard core of a 12.2MP sensor and 3x optical zoom lens. The optic begins at 37mm and ends at 111mm, and so isn’t particularly suited for any photography which requires a wide angle of view. Scene Recognition Auto (SR AUTO) intelligently detects the scene type you are shooting and optimises the camera’s focus, exposure and white balance, so whether you’re photographing flowers or a holiday landscape, you will get flawless photos at the press of a button.
