About this deal

For me the key to a quality set of goggles has to start with comfort and this is magnified when you are considering endurance swims or triathlon events such as an ironman. Wearing goggles for over an hour can become a real chore if you don’t have the right fit which just becomes impossible to ignore over time. Water leakage from the Huub Altair Goggles Inspired by the scuba diving industry (take a look at yourself wearing these in a mirror, and you’ll see exactly why), Aqua Sphere’s goggles are considered some of the best on the market. The Kayenne and the Kaiman, in particular, are favorites amongst triathletes and open water swimmers due to their leak-resistant comfort, clarity, and field-of-vision. Designed to provide perfect vision underwater while keeping your eyes protected, Aqua Sphere’s Kayenne goggles have large, slightly curved, triangular lenses which offer wide visibility — and make them best for open water swimming. And if you like the mask-like shape of these, but you’re not quite convinced of the clear lens, they do also produce mirrored versions (which are much better for bright, sunny days). They also come in both adult and child sizes. One happy customer describes these goggles as “ one less stress on race day, an essential choice for sea and lake swims”.

You can choose a different strength prescription for either side of your eye, enabling you to combine and construct the perfect goggle set up for you. Supplied as standard with three pairs of different interchangeable non-prescription mirrored lenses for reduced glare and comfort: One happy customer describes these goggles as " one less stress on race day, an essential choice for sea and lake swims".When it comes to choosing the best swimming goggles for you, it's a good idea to think about where you'll be doing most of your swimming. If you'll be doing most of your laps in the pool, you probably won't need a pair of goggles with a polarized lens that offers UV protection. On the other hand, if you are planning on doing a lot of open-water swimming, you'll want to keep the sun out of your eyes between strokes. Upcoming premium triathlon brand HUUB — which specializes in wetsuits for triathlon and outdoor swimming — have created the ultimate three-in-one goggle. As the most expensive goggles on our list, these are a bit of an investment, but with three different lenses (each designed for different light conditions) they’ll stand the test of time as you can swap the lenses in and out depending on when and where you’re swimming. If your swimming goggles keep leaking, despite you adjusting them to fit your nose, and around your head, it might be that they aren't the right pair for you. Despite these swimming goggles being the best on test, they might not be the best for your face shape or bone structure if they keep leaking. We also wanted to make our fantastic interchangeable goggle even better... So, we made the Altair a prescription lens fit goggle, in addition to the three standard-issue lenses, surely that’s the answer to both our dilemmas! With comfort also comes reliability and in goggle terms this means a set that don’t leak and mean you won’t find yourself treading water part way round as the seals have failed and allowed water to ingress around your eye. It is very much a personal thing on what goggles deliver a comfortable fit as we all have different sized and shaped heads but the flexibility of the soft silicone gasket seal around the eyes and construction mean the Altair’s offer a quality fit for most people. Certainly all the freak shaped units that shuffle around the Trivelo offices on a daily basis found them comfy! Swimming for over 2 hours tends to mean you are left looking like you haven’t slept for days with bags under the eyes from the goggles pressing against your skull. No such issue with the Altair that allows a quality seal without having to overtly tighten the headstrap. Look and feel of the Huub Altair Goggles

There are a couple of interchangeable nose bridges that come with these goggles — which are always handy when a box says “one size fits all”. The adjustable nose bridge allows you to tweak the goggles for a more secure fit. Although, it’s worth noting that this feature isn’t a ‘must have’ for kids, beginners, and more casual pool-goers, but adjustable nose-bridge pieces do tend to come as standard for intermediate and advanced swimming goggles. Easy to adjust — you literally just push down on a small button at the side of the lens and then tug on the strap, we were really impressed with both the sturdiness of the strap and how well the lenses of these Kayenne goggles managed to stay fog-free. Depending on the weather and light conditions, simply swap the high-grade polycarbonate lenses to match your needs. For this weeks blog we have a Huub Altair swim goggles product review that we have been reviewing for the past 8 weeks testing them in pools, lakes, rivers and sea swims. Alternatives to Huub GogglesYou wanted one set of adaptable goggles with interchangeable lenses. And that’s exactly what we created. The world’s only goggles with three different lenses, designed to give you razor sharp vision in different light conditions. So now you simply swap the lens to match your need. It’s the little things that make a difference. Made of high grade polycarbonate with a soft flexible silicone seal and three interchangeable nose bridges for optimum comfort and fit. The broad lenses give an excellent field of view. Whether you're looking for a classic design or something more modern, HUUB goggles have you covered. With a range of styles and colors to choose from, you're sure to find a pair that matches your personality and style. Enhance Your Cycling Experience Today Designed to offer clarity in any light condition, the Huub Altair Goggles are interchangeable lens goggles that allow you to swap lenses in and out at a moment's notice. Equipped with three different lens types that suit lowlight, pool or outdoor swimming conditions, this is a versatile performance pair of lenses for the athlete looking to really dial in and adapt their performance to the situation.

One step up from tinted and mirrored lenses are polarised lenses. They work the same as polarised sunglasses, reducing glare while also making everything look sharper. Good for swimming in bright sunlight, reducing glare off the surface of the water – and also exploring underwater! HUUB strive to deliver what competitors want and following a huge amount of requests for a prescription goggle they believe they have created the perfect solution. HUUB’s new Altair Prescription Lenses are designed to be used with their most adaptable goggle – the Altair. Durability has been a question mark over some of the Huub range of wetsuits where they have focused on performance and comfort but this could come at the sacrifice of the strength of the products. Do the Huub Altair goggles suffer with the same issue? Hard to tell at this stage but in my view this is less of a consideration when buying goggles. Personally I expect a set to last me 3 to 6 months when I routinely tend to replace them so a set of strong goggles that will last me years doesn’t really feature in my decision criteria. Given this and most people more concerned with the comfort and performance of a set of goggles Huub are unlikely to find many dissatisfied customers. Value for Money of the Huub Altair Goggles The Altair goggles are the only ones which come with three different lenses. Each lens provides incredibly sharp vision in the water and under a variety of light conditions. Finally, whatever level of swimmer you might be, it's a good idea to select a pair of swimming goggles that can easily be adjusted. Look for things like an adjustable nose bridge, which will help the goggles sit comfortably on the bridge of your nose, and prevent you from having to adjust them each length of the pool. How do you stop swimming goggles from leaking?Expanding the market for their existing premium Altair Swim Goggle, HUUB Design have added a range of prescription swim lenses which fit the interchangeable lenses of that range-topping model. The Altairs have three mirrored lenses (all made from a high-grade poly carbonate) that come in the hard shell case with the goggles. Huub describes them: I tend to keep a bottle of “anti-fog” in my swim bag in readiness for my goggles failing to remain clear on a swim but the Huub Altair’s seem to have some really durable anti-fog coating as to date I haven’t needed to use anything on them and visibility has been excellent. After 8 weeks you can see the coating starting to be affected by the regular usage but this has not affected the performance of the anti-fog. The lens is rounded that gives you some all round visibility but this isn’t significant and in line with many similar goggles of this style. I found the vision provided natural and not an issue in pool or open water. Build Quality & Durability of Huub Goggles

Mirrored lenses also reduce brightness and help cut out glare. Some swimmers enjoy the psychological advantage they feel that mirrored lenses give them in races by psyching out their competitors! We all know the saying ‘kill two birds with one stone’, the new Altair prescription does just this... Constantly we are asked about prescription goggles, something we have been wanting to do but have never found a goggle good enough, or been able to accommodate the multiple lenses needed with a prescription goggle. We've been wanting to make a prescription goggle but have never found a goggle good enough or been able to accommodate the multiple lenses needed. We also wanted to make our fantastic interchangeable goggle even better... So, we made the Altair a prescription lens fit goggle, in addition to the three standard-issue lenses, surely that’s the answer to both our dilemmas! This summer offered perfect timing for reviewing new goggles as I prepared for an endurance swim crossing the Solent for the Aspire charity meaning plenty of time swimming in every type of water. The choice of Huub goggle for this venture being their top of the range Altair goggle kindly provided by the very helpful team at Huub Design. Arriving in the post direct from Huub first impressions are very very good with the goggles in a hardened case with the multiple lenses and replacement nose rubbers. Uniquely the Altair comes with inter-changeable lenses allowing you to have a single set of goggles for the various types of swimming you may do. This feature has long since been a part of cycling glasses design and therefore many of our triathlete readership expecting this and Huub leading the way with a clever design that enables this.
