Dwayne Johnson: “We had no idea how this was going to shake out. We launched in the beginning of the pandemic. And with consumer behavior then…to try and deliver something new at that time when things were so uncertain—everyone only wanted what they were familiar with, and I understood that. But instead of shelving the product and putting it on hold, we felt like maybe there was a shot here, because we’re all going through this together.” Created in a small town in the highlands of Jalisco, our founder Dwayne Johnson worked with a Mexican family-owned distillery to build a unique home on the grounds solely for Teremana - Destilería Teremana de Agave. Here they craft Teremana with a love for great tequila made the right way, in small batches, by hand. Inspired by this success, many famous actors and athletes have ventured into the spirits industry by endorsing their Mezcal or Tequila brands.

It’s unusual for a Reposado aged only for two months to have such a dominant vanilla taste, which points towards the use of fake flavorings. Developed in association with Ken Austin and Jenna Fagnan from Tequila Avión fame, Teremana follows the Polynesian and Mexican ethos of respect for the earth and its people.

When it comes to sustainability, Teremana works to reduce its impact on the land in steps throughout the tequila-making process. Teremana composts the agave fibers that are leftover from the shredding process, then uses the compost as organic fertilizer for the agave fields. The distillery also cleans its leftover production water using a state-of-the-art filtration system so the water can be reused elsewhere on the property. Crafted with 100% blue Weber agave from the highest fields in Jalisco, slow-roasted for three days, open-air fermented, small-batch double-distilled and aged in former bourbon barrels for a minimum of two months. It is worth noting that the vanilla flavor is more prominent than expected from an Añejo aged for just one year, but this should not be a deal-breaker. While it may not be the smoothest sipper and has a bit of a boozy and peppery taste, it can make a Margarita with a touch of oak flavor.
