About this deal

Arrow’s new repackaging includes a new 4K restoration from the original camera negative, presented in 4K (2160p) UHD Blu-ray in Dolby Vision. Arrow has reissued their excellent two-disc RoboCop set on 4K, even going so far as to source new 4K scans of the trims that were added back in for the Director’s Cut (and originally taken out to avoid an X rating). Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. The enormous amount of bonus features found in that set make their way to this one too, including a 43-page booklet.

With a cynical, satirical eye on Reagan-era American culture, Paul Verhoeven's RoboCop imagines a dystopian future where a corporation owns and controls a police department. The set includes some fine art cards, double sided poster, a humorous sticker and a superb 80-page book full of information surrounding the film’s production, themes, impact and legacy. In the near future, the city of Detroit is in financial ruin and the streets are overrun with violent crime. The various opticals used to present the TV broadcasts within the film, as well as the stop motion effects sequences, are obviously less refined. With all of the various cuts of the film on top of hours of bonus content, the attractive packaging, the booklet of great essays and interviews - there's simply no better release of this film on home video.

Explosions and gunfire aren’t always impactful, but the film sounds the way it always has without any additional sweetening or alterations. Dialogue is rendered with precision, largely disseminated across the frontal array, with a few more expansive crowded moments, whilst environmental and futuristic noises (there's a tremendous sound as Robocop whips open the boardroom doors in the final act) get prime placement, delivered cleanly and with resonance. But back and forth comparisons undoubtedly give this UHD edition the win, looking cleaner and sharper overall with a more refined grain structure that's largely consistent throughout.

RoboCop - the kick-ass action sci-fi classic satire that we just can't get enough of is back on Blu-ray! Aside from those moments, the ceiling channels are relatively quiet, preserving the action across the fronts where it really belongs. Given the recent advancements in robotics and artificial intelligence, I imagine it’s only a matter of time before we see a real RoboCop walking city streets, with all the potential upsides and downsides that will entail. We hope you enjoy our growing collection of HD images to use as a background or home screen for your smartphone or computer. Robocop has never looked better, and few should have any complaints, as it is an absolute joy to revisit in all its glory. Featuring a new 4K remaster, the Blu-ray arrives with the best possible video presentation of the 80s cult classic and strong lossless audio. The box set also comes with a reversible sleeve featuring original poster art and artwork by Graham Humphreys, a double-sided fold-out poster, six double-sided, postcard-sized lobby card reproductions, and a limited-edition 60-page book featuring new writing by Craig Ian Mann and Simon Ward, archival articles and original reviews.

On the other hand, it does make the grain field more noticeable during darker sequences - especially in the steel mill. I'm not sure if MGM took the time to also remaster the audio, but for all intents and purposes, this DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack sounds nearly identical to its predecessor.
