About this deal

If it fills up, Lute will dissipate for a short while, leaving Briar unable to defend or attack properly. Despite being a new Chimera just barely out of training, Briar and Lute was sent to help reclaim Ilden.

Breaking through armour, or red crystal, then a full health bar that seems to tank as much as it depletes, then on larger enemies having to switch to blue field and lock-on to knock down some wraiths is very demanding when you also have a dozen other enemies clamouring to lay some smackdown of their own. While I did like the combat, I felt that the game throws too many enemies at you at times, especially during the later half of the game. But by the time you’re sent on your mission – to investigate a supernatural storm corrupting all life it spreads across turning them into heinous beasts – you're the only one around to get the job done. A single-player third-person combat scenario, a world-threatening force of demons, combat encounters that are concerned more with scoring combos you perform and the flow you achieve, challenge rooms, and even red orbs to collect to purchase and level skills. How about Soulstice, then, a new fantasy RPG from publisher Modus Games and developer Reply Game Studios. These challenge rooms will be familiar from many of the Devil May Cry games, warping you away to a separate arena to face waves of enemies under certain conditions where you can win green max health orbs or Lute enhancement orbs. That said, Soulstice is structured as a game that you really should play until you finish, it’s not one you can put down and pick up after a couple days. The Chimera, hybrid warriors born of the union of two souls, are the only ones who can protect humankind. Contrast that with the exceptional monsters populating the place, which are hit after hit of truly twisted and creative creature design worthy of being mentioned alongside the genre’s finest, and the environmental design seems especially lackluster.

Combat is the shining point, but it’s plagued with a terrible camera, some buggy performance, and a steep learning curve. While you of course will be running to where you need to go next and taking in the scenery, you’ll encounter some blockades you’ll have to take care of as well as hidden secrets like crystal motherlobes or challenge levels. And though its developer, Reply Game Studios, follows the recipe as best it can, Soulstice is a great reminder that not all character-action hack-and-slashers are created equal.Soulstice's overwritten story and repetitive second half somewhat dull the catharsis of its glorious throwback hack-and-slash combat, but it's still great fun. In addition, you can also refund Lute’s skills to respec her, which helps as the attacks she uses during combat are based on her unlocked skills and her rapture ability depends on what skills she has.

Through a dark story filled with sisterly love and sacrifice, Briar and Lute discover the truth about themselves and their Chimera powers while working together and staying true to their unbreakable bond.

These make up the majority of the characters you’ll meet, but there’s only a handful of people in the game. By filling in this form, you agree to receive information about the offers, news and events of MODUS GAMES by e-mail or text messages. The amount of content just within the combat is jaw-dropping, so much so that it feels like Reply Game Studios aren't saving anything for a sequel. Wraiths corrupt their victims and can even possess their bodies, turning into unstoppable, vile beings that prey upon the living. Her fellow Chimeras also all look cool as hell, and every enemy design is quickly recognizable and, frankly, awesome.
