About this deal

I loved everything and totally grieved with both Eason and Bree, for their loss and the devastating truths that were uncovered. I also loved that their love developed over time and that they didn’t just jumped each other the first chance they got. I loved Eason so much, that man was just all sorts of special. And Bree, she was amazing. Such great characters and character development. And the kids! They were precious! We are born into a state of relationship, and our ceremonies and rituals are guides to lead us deeper into that relationship with all things. Big lesson? Relationships never end; they just change. In believing that lies the freedom to carry compassion, empathy, love, kindness and respect into and through whatever changes. We are made more by that practice. There are periods when you exist beyond the context of time and fact and reality. Moments when memory carries you buoyant beyond all things, and life exists as fragments and shards of being, when you see yourself as you were and will be again - sacred, whole and shining. Being with Eason has changed Bree, she sees him in a whole new light, the way he cares for his daughter and her children, how he freely gives love and support to them all. The version she had in her own mind (mainly tainted by Jessica) was nothing like the reality of him. She sees now how he had always put others first and hadn’t ever really had the support he deserved. There was nothing to be impressed with! If this was something to come across or create great angst, it was poorly delivered.

What's needed are eyes that focus with the soul. What's needed are spirits open to everything. What's needed are the belief that wonder is the glue of the universe and the desire to seek more of it. Be filled with wonder. A small volume of wisdom, well-worth contemplating. The book is enhanced with beautiful photography. There are times in your life you are flung into an undiscovered country of being, a place beyond time and tide and detail, the full magical breath of you heaving with the indescribable joy of being, and you realize then that parts of you exist in exile and completeness is journeying to bring them home. I forgot why I loved Aly Martinez' writing so much, and I'm glad for the reminder. I'm off to play catch up with her other books that I've missed out on.Take these two couples - Rob & Bree are best friends and neighbours of Eason & Jessica maxwell. Their kids play together, while adults socialise. Their lives seemingly picture perfect at first glance.

I would call this a darkish fantasy that gives you runaway princess vibes, blood play, a deliciously dark lord that you want to be chased by, with a predator/prey trope. It’s tasty, dark, and real. I loved it and I’m excited for the beginning of her journey! So excited for the remainder of her ARCs to go out and see this beauty on everyone’s shelves! The basis of this story is absolutely phenomenal and amazing. I loved seeing different parts of lore intertwined. This is a complex story with twist and turns that you don't always see coming. I really loved the main character even though she is a little wishy washy at times, however that is understandable given her circumstances. I would be a whole lotta wishy washy myself. Plus I don't usually care for FMC and I really enjoyed her.. so that's saying something. The lore is steaming from several different things but they each have their own unique twist. In the first few chapters we get to know two couples, the two guys are best friends and the two girls are too. They live in the same neighbourhood and are both raising families. Rob and Bree have two children, a successful business and a very happy marriage. Eason & Jessica have a baby daughter, Jess is a stay at home mum and Eason is a talented songwriter still working towards getting his big break. This is a source of contention between Eason & Jess. When I surrender the delivery, along with the outcome, the anxiety and the expectation, everything becomes miraculous. It's a recipe for life, really. It’s important to mention that as Bree and Eason finally find themselves starting to heal from the fire and Rob and Jessica’s deaths. *SPOILER INCOMING* They find proof that Rob and Jessica were months deep into a very illicit, sexual affair. Eason lashes out, both are thwarted into feelings of anger following months of grief and sadness. Both Jessica and Rob were NOT who thought they were. ( Well I mean, I expected this from Jessica but I digress ) and Eason now faces the possibility that Luna is not his biological child, but rather Jessica and Rob’s love child.

Keep in Touch!

I was a little worried I wouldn't love the romance aspect of this book, but I truly loved Bree and Eason together. This could have potentially been a five star read for me, but man... the hits kept coming. Like, my stomach dropped when I saw the first twist unravel... then, when the next turn came. It was a bit much for me. Even so, I truly adored a lot of this story. I loved the romance, the bonds the children developed and how it all ended. EMBERS is perhaps Richard Wagamese's most personal volume to date. Honest, evocative and articulate, he explores the various manifestations of stillness, harmony, trust, reverence, persistence, gratitude and joy. I received an ARC for Hidden Beneath the Embers and WOW! What an amazing story. We follow Davyna (FMC) and her journey to find answers about her biological father.

If you receive others as worthy, lovable, spiritual creations - perfect just they way they are - you get to see the highest possible version of who you are. You get to be that. Experience that. And you become a gift to the world. Okay so even the parts of this book that were supposed to be the interesting parts ( the first half ) just didn’t work for me. I just didn’t feel drawn to this story nor the characters. It was just such a forgettable book. I really only read it b/c I saw a TikTok of people raving about it and the way it was marketed out to be was a lot better than the execution. Like WOW he saved his enemy instead of his wife? YEAH I THOUGHT IT WAS ENEMIES TO LOVERS CAUSE THEY SAID IT WAS. IT WAS NOT. They were NEVER enemies, they just were indifferent towards one another. Either barely interacting or giving awkward hugs. The potential was there though, however like I said execution fell short. If you liked this, I am sincerely glad you enjoyed it! But unfortunately it just wasn’t for me, and that’s okay! :)

The City of Ember is a post-apocalyptic novel by Jeanne DuPrau that was published in 2003. The story is about Ember, a post-apocalyptic underground city threatened by aging infrastructure and corruption. The young protagonists, Lina Mayfleet and Doon Harrow, follow clues left behind by the original builders of the City of Ember, to safety in the outside world. I’m terrified that, if we keep screaming into the past, the future is going to be nothing but an echo.”
