At thirty-seven, Tessa Harlow is still working her way down her list of goals to “fall in love and have a family.” A self-described rolling stone, Tessa leads hiking tours for adventurous vacationers–it’s a job that’s taken her around the world but never a step closer to home. Then a freak injury during a trip already marred by tragedy forces her to begin her greatest adventure of all. Located high in the New Mexico mountains, Las Ladronas has become a magnet for the very wealthy and very hip, but once upon a time it was the setting of a childhood trauma Tessa can only half remember. Now, as she rediscovers both her old hometown and her past, Tessa is drawn to search-and-rescue worker Vince Grasso. The handsome widower isn’t her type. No more inclined to settle down than Tessa, Vince is the father of three, including an eight-year-old girl as lost as Tessa herself. But Tessa and Vince are both drawn to the town’s most beloved eatery–100 Breakfasts–and to each other. For Tessa, the restaurant is not only the key to the mystery that has haunted her life but a chance to find the home and the family she’s never known. Though this isn't a cancer book per se, it does offer a 6-week Cancer Conquering Diet, one low in glucose to help starve the cancer. There are a few herbal supplements recommended, but nothing too crazy and expensive. She advises following the Cancer Conquering Diet with the Anti-Fungal diet afterwards.

After watching quite a few of Barbara O'Neill's presentations on YouTube, I was glad to find she has written a book. It's another testimony of the healing ability of the body when the body is properly cared for. I love the title of the book because it implies that our Creator created our bodies to self heal. Where have I seen these before? More of that Seventh Day Adventist wisdom! Each point is covered fully. The first third of the book covers yeast (including candida) and fungus and how to control them. There's evidence that the spores of asomycete fungi seem to be involved in the cause of cancer. "The fungal spores in their cell wall and deficient forms inside the human cell are able to incorporate their DNA with the human DNA to create a hybrid or mutated cell. The cell now changes from aerobic (in the presence of oxygen) to anaerobic (the absence of oxygen) respiration. This anaerobic respiration gives off lactic acid, which in turn lowers the pH of the body. Fungus and disease thrive in an acid pH. As the fungal cell is now merged with the human cell, it escapes destruction by the white blood cell because the white blood cell now sees it as a human cell." Yikes! Both cancer and fungus like anaerobic, acidic conditions, and both thrive on sugar. I suspect this is not a coincidence. From the acclaimed author of Taipei, a bold portrait of a writer working to balance all his lives—artist, son, loner—as he spins the ordinary into something monumental. An engrossing, hopeful novel about life, fiction, and where the two blur together. In 2014, a novelist named Li leaves Manhattan to visit his parents in Taipei for ten weeks. He doesn't know it yet, but his life will begin to deepen and complexify on this trip. As he flies between these two worlds--year by year, over four years--he will flit in and out of optimism, despair, loneliness, sanity, bouts of chronic pain, and drafts of a new book. He will incite and temper arguments, uncover secrets about nature and history, and try to understand how to live a meaningful life as an artist and a son. But how to fit these pieces of his life together? Where to begin? Or should he leave society altogether? Exploring everyday events and scenes--waiting rooms, dog walks, family meals--while investigatively venturing to the edges of society, where culture dissolves into mystery, Lin shows what it is to write a novel in real time. Illuminating and deeply felt, as it builds toward a stunning, if unexpected, romance, Leave Society is a masterly story about life and art at the end of history. A VINTAGE ORIGINAL
