However, they are not suited for professional applications. In the case that you enjoy or need your studio monitors to accurately represent soundscapes, then you should consider investing a little more money into your audio system.

The large convex diffuser around the tweeter adds some nice depth. Add to this the inward-facing beveled edges and restrained use of the Pioneer logo. The DM-40 also offers up lots of loudness. Great for plugging into your DJ controller for home practice sessions. They are not loud enough for a party but you shouldn’t be using studio monitors for these types of performances anyway. The sweet spot is not large enough to fill a room with even sound.
The DM-40D-BTs are ideal for both DJing and producing music. There is a little switch on the DM 40D-BT speakers where you can choose DJ mode or music production mode. As a result, the DSP settings automatically alter and augment, leaving you to focus on the music. DM-40D-BT ConnectionsAll these features are combined in a compact design making the DM-40 the perfect match for DJing, producing and simply enjoying music at home. The front mounted bass ports help the bass driver drop lower, moving more air as a result. Although most speakers feature a bass port, they are often found on the rear of the speaker. As a result most speakers suffer in performance if mounted close to a wall. Thankfully, Pioneer DJ have placed two ports on the front of the speaker, meaning the DM-40 is perfectly suited to being placed close to a wall. Having tuning options opens up the ability to adjust output based on speaker placement or studio space. This is one area that the Pioneer DM-40’s fall short in. There is no flexibility to adjust the output of these monitors. For the price, it isn’t a feature I normally expect but it is worth mentioning. We tested the Pioneer monitors in a small studio, where we had already performed an acoustic measurement, and based on the results, the acoustic treatment was also done. On the walls were printed sound-absorbing panels depicting instruments and parametric diffusers in a rather modern style. In a music studio, perfect musical piece of work can only be made if the acoustics of the place are properly treated with the right acoustic elements.
These are a well made, substantial little pair of speakers, with the right feature set for this price point, and a forgiving, warm, engaging sound. Great for any DJ starting out who wants a step up from cheap computer speakers, but doesn’t want or need to spend multiples of this price on dedicated studio monitors. The specially engineered ducts cut down on impediments and produce a clean, grand, low-end oomph regardless of your volume levels. Class AB Amplifiers Max dimensions (W x D x H): Lch: 146 x 227 x 223 mm / 5.75” x 8.94” x 8.78”, Rch 146 x 227 x 212 mm / 5.75” x 8.94” x 8.35” Each of the DM-40D-BT speakers contains a 4-inch fibreglass cone woofer, a ¾-inch soft dome tweeter, redesigned DECO convex diffusers, and a new Class D amplifier. The woofer can provide an extra increase of power when the volume is turned up. Exact sounding frequencies are produced thanks to the expertly positioned tweeters—the Class D amplifier assists with producing balanced natural bass sound. Additionally, the diffusers provide a broader sweet spot and 3D stereo sound, all thanks to their inbuilt structure and ability to make super-clear high frequencies in all directions. 2-way Sound Mode According to Pioneer, this helps the DM 40 speakers achieve its impressively low-distortion at higher volumes. First Impressions / Setting Up
We’re all sound fanatics. Most of us have been hungry to listen to new music and learn about new equipment since we were kids…… Related Posts The DM 40s come with two-meter long audio cables, power leads, and some foam cushions that act as miniature isolation pads. The Pioneer DM-40 offers two unbalanced connection options. A standard RCA connection along with a ⅛-inch stereo mini-plug. I would have liked to see a balanced option but in most cases, the unbalanced options will be more than suitable. What does stand out is that Pioneer succeeded in delivering on its promise of low distortion. Even as the speakers get quite loud, there is no noticeable harshness.
How to set up your DM-40 speakers
Before we dive deep into the review, here are some of the features you stand to gain when using this speaker. If you are hard-pressed to invest more into your monitoring system, then you can rest assured that the DJ DM 40s will still be impressive for your DJ practice, and casual listening. We would also like to make clear that it is also entirely possible to produce music on sonically inaccurate speakers. Unlike what you might have heard before about budget speakers and how they sound, this budget speaker seems to raise the bar for how budget speakers should sound. For starters, beginner DJ would love the punch it produces when they play songs through it. It doesn't punch as hard as premium speakers, but I think it's simply impressive, especially for a portable budget speaker. These are especially helpful when placing your audio setup on a table because the table can act as a speaker extension itself.
