About this deal

The structure is great, the setting is solid, but the characters, unfortunately, are ridiculous. Cooney suffers from her own melodrama, to an extent, and I hated both of the main characters are flat fools slotting neatly into gender expectations with little fuss. I do appreciate the ways Cooney gave us both sides of a scene and the interplay between Seth and Diana, but especially at the end I was absolutely on the side of the nurses who found them insufferable. The subplots were really quite good, but Seth and Diana kind of spoil the whole thing. There were also a number of ethnic and socioeconomic stereotypes that just felt too easy for this, although many of them are often true.

In its first year, ER attracted an average of 19 million viewers per episode, becoming the year's second most watched television show, just behind Seinfeld. In the following two seasons (1995–1997), ER was the most watched show in North America. For almost five years, ER battled for the top spot against Seinfeld, but in 1998, Seinfeld ended and then ER became number one again. The series finale attracted 16.4 million viewers. [56] The show's highest rating came during the season 2 episode " Hell and High Water," with 48 million viewers and a 45% market share. It was the highest for a regularly scheduled drama since a May 1985 installment of Dallas received a 46. The share represents the percentage of TVs in use tuned in to that show. Depending on your profession and level of training different Emergency Medicine books will have more or less value. Here are some thoughts on the different professional roles in Emergency Medicine and the best Emergency Medicine books for those stages. In 1974, author Michael Crichton wrote a screenplay based on his own experiences as a medical student in a busy hospital emergency room. [3] The screenplay went nowhere and Crichton turned to other topics. In 1990, he published the novel Jurassic Park, and in 1993 began a collaboration with director Steven Spielberg on the film adaptation of the book. [4] Crichton and Spielberg then turned to ER, but decided to film the story as a two-hour pilot for a television series rather than as a feature film. [5] Spielberg's Amblin Television provided John Wells as the show's executive producer. It perpetuates the idea that we go above and beyond every single day for nothing more than the gratuity of others, That we put ourselves at risk of physical assault, burnout, and mental distress, for nothing more than love of people.Female characters were almost exclusively described in terms of physical attractiveness and body type, urban patients were casually dehumanized, typical "manly man" and "girly girl" stereotypes were reinforced and romanticized, and the city itself was criminalized for containing racial, ethnic, and class diversity. One highlight of Tintinalli’s Emergency Medicine is that it often digs into potentially forgotten topics that may have new relevancy as one gets more experience. As we are all aware, the initial phases of training in medicine involve a bunch of fact memorization, test taking, and then the forgetting of those facts to make room for new information. Then, over time, memorized facts become intuitive knowledge anchored by experiences and we find ourselves with more room for new information. Tintinalli’s Emergency Medicine plays to this knowledge evolution as it takes previously memorized concepts and articulates them in a way that a more experienced practitioner can appreciate. For example, there is a section on how fresh frozen plasma is prepared for clinical use – information that most providers have likely forgotten over the years but would nonetheless find interesting. Consequently, Tintinalli’s Emergency Medicine is a reference that can be utilized as a reference by both novice and expert practitioners. I think the author wrote this because some kids actually have to take care of their brothers or sisters even though they are all young.

He worked up to the status of Sergeant while he was in the Air Force and served as an aircraft mechanic as well as a flight engineer working in various capacities for air transport services. Upon being discharged from the military he worked as a copywriter and then took a position with two ad agencies where he was the creative director. During his time with the ad agencies, Cussler wrote and produced numerous television and radio commercials which won several international awards. One of these awards was given at the prominent Cannes Film Festival. Early Writing Career Minor Emergencies: Expert Consult is a relatively new addition to the slowly changing Emergency Medicine book market. Minor Emergencies covers a hundreds of minor disease presentations in a compact manner. Minor Emergencies utilizes outlines, illustrations and bullet points to cover material and pairs content with commentary using evidence-based medicine. Useful before or during an ED shift, Minor Emergencies is a concise refresher for relevant details related to minor care. Some might argue that this text has even more application in less acute settings such as an urgent care or clinic.

ER - Season 2, Episode 7: Hell and High Water". TV.com. Archived from the original on November 12, 2017 . Retrieved September 9, 2011. Critical reactions for ER 's first season were very favorable. Alan Rich, writing for Variety, praised the direction and editing of the pilot [59] while Eric Mink, writing for the New York Daily News, said that the pilot of ER "was urban, emergency room chaos and young, committed doctors." However some reviewers felt the episodes following the pilot did not live up to it with Mink commenting that "the great promise of the "E.R." pilot dissolves into the kind of routine, predictable, sloppily detailed medical drama we've seen many times before."
