The recipe was meticulously developed by Lord and Lady Carnarvon over two years, experimenting with botanicals grown here on the Highclere Estate and was influenced by what is grown in the Orangery as well as the gardens. Enjoyed in the “Highclere Style” for over a century, the traditional method of indulgence involves a cocktail made with gin, tonic, a fresh orange squeeze and peel, and finished with a rosemary sprig from the garden.The botanical mixture isn’t far from a classic London dry, and while the makers proudly state the botanicals are inspired by the gardens of Highclere Castle, they are just that , inspired. A combination of bright and earthy citrus from orange and lemon, classic juniper, and earthy notes of angelica and cassia. With a delicate balance of juniper, lime flowers, orange peel and a touch of lavendar, it is the true essence of Highcleres ancient estate. Records from the 13th century testify that oats have been grown at Highclere and today remain a key element of the landscape for food, to add to our gin and as part of conservation and diversity. With only 2,000 cases produced, this special blend of Highclere Castle Gin is a once in a lifetime product, and, like the discovery of King Tut’s Tomb, will go down in history, never to be released again.
