About this deal

This oil-based white wood stain from Minwax is perfect for those who want a true bright white finish and still have the wood grain shine through. It goes on smoothly and evenly and can be easily wiped away with a clean cloth if you make any mistakes. It also has a longer dry time giving you more time to work with the stain if you make any mistakes. This white stain is perfect for giving your project a crisp, clean look. It can also be used to achieve that weathered look by using lighter coats and immediately wiping away any excess stain. Varathane Antique White Wood Stain Once the second coat dries, use a damp rag to lightly rub away some of the paint from the wood and create an aged look.

Staining your wood project leaves the natural grain showing it gives the wood a more rustic and unique appearance.Whitewash paint has better overall coverage. It covers the entire wood piece so it appears more uniform and less unique and rustic. You’ll see less of the wood’s natural tone and perhaps only subtle grain will show through. What’s great about white wood stain is that it can be simultaneously used for interior and exterior wood staining projects because of its universal nature. These stains are available in oil-based and water-based forms. Mostly, water-based white wood stain is preferred as it produces less odor, and cleanup is easier.A. Wood Stain is designed to penetrate into the wood and so the longer you leave it on the more it will soak in and the darker the wood will become. Wood can also only absorb so much stain before it becomes saturated and so any excess would then dry on the surface. This is why we recommend wiping the stain off after one or two minutes. For whitewash over stained wood (with no sealant), you can use either white stain or white paint (like I did on my weathered wood gray finish). Either way results are going to vary greatly depending on the base stain color, so definitely test it out first! If you are unsure of the wood stain colour, test it on an unseen area first. The stain can be applied with either a cloth, bristle brush, or for best results a Foam Brush. Apply the stain liberally going in the direction of the grain. Leave it to soak in for a minute or two and then wipe any excess of using a Lint Free Cloth. Sand in between each coat of paint or dye to ensure an even finish. Start with very fine grit sandpaper and work your way up to medium grit. Pine & Softwoods – Once you have prepared the surface as above you should apply a Pre-Stain Conditioner. This is because softwoods absorb wood stains in an uneven fashion and could come out blotchy once stained. If you don't have a conditioner, you should wipe the wood down with a wet cloth so the wood becomes damp. After the wood dries, sand it smooth using a #100 Fine Sanding Pad - this process helps reduce the uneven absorbtion of stain often found in softwoods.

Unless you are using precise measurements for your custom wood stain be sure to make a large enough batch to stain the entire piece as it can be very difficult to replicate a custom wood stain recipe. Advice: 2 coats are recommended with further coats increasing the solidity of the colour. Wood Stain + Protect is a wood stain coating so will wear off over time. If applying Wood Stain + Protect to a garden building that will be subjected to high levels of exposure to weather, it is recommended that you apply Protek Clear Tough Coat as a top coat.
