About this deal

Angela's top tip is to never be frightened of sewing with silk, it is tough and presses incredibly well. If you do want to use pins we recommend applique pins, which are smaller than regular pins to help you pin your shapes accurately.

McCalls 8246 is a modern take on the trench coat with dramatic storm flaps, pleated raglan sleeves double breasted button fastening and waist belt. Made to Measure Challenge: a Boiler SuitAsmaa's first dress was a simple Tshirt dress with a bagged over top and sexy fitted skirt. I made Burda 6540 some years ago and added elastic at the waist to create the bagged over look. Sew it up in our royal blue John Kaldor ritual fabric and you will have a very similar looking dress to Asmaa's. Read our Great British Sewing Bee book review, From Stitch to Style by Wendy Gardiner, published by Quadrille. Special Sewing bee Blog Series (2016) Episode 5 –For episode five the theme was children’s garments. For the transformation challenge the Bees were reminded of the blood, sweat and tears that went into their projects over the last 9 episodes when they were presented with scraps from all of their challenges and tasked with transforming them into party wear. The Sewing Bees were required to sew a midi length shirred dress with puff sleeves for the pattern challenge AKA my idea of heaven. Sewing Bee Patterns McCalls 7946 Simplicity 9141 I think view A and view G of Simplicity 8328 would work together to create a similar look. Although the skirt isn't a bubble hem, it is crying out to be turned into one, either using a fork like Tony or gathering stitches as an alternative to a pleated version! Simplicity 8328 tops and skirts pattern Episode 2 –In the second week contestants were tasked with sewing a Summer wardrobe. The challenges included making a pair of paper bag shorts, refashioning men’s swimming gear and making a made-to-measure sun dress for a model. Find the sewing patterns used by the contestants here.

Simplicity 9323 is a complete boubous winner! One of the Bees created something very similar. Simplicity 9323 boubous inspired design Farie 34, Accountant. From Dunstable, she began sewing after being inspired by textiles at GCSE. She loves to make outfits for her children. Episode 8 –For episode eight the theme was Music and Movies week, making garments inspired by the silver screen. The challenges included making a dress inspired by Baby from Dirty Dancing, adapting old curtains into play clothes for children, just like Julie Andrews’s Maria in The Sound of Music, and a made-to-measure disco era outfit inspired by the movie Dreamgirls. Adeena 40, Student Engagement Officer. From Birmingham, she is inspired by British style and her Pakistani heritage. She has bee sewing for several years and tries out her makes on her sisters. The Bees had to sew not one, but two dresses for the made to measure challenge inspired by recent appearances from Blake Lively and Lady Gaga at the Met Gala who transformed their gowns half way through the night. Vogue 1874 is all about the folds and pleats! We love the way the intensive pleating at the waist creates shaping round the bust. Vogue 1874 Top Pattern The Victory Patterns Satsuki pattern also felt decidely boubous with the wide flowing sleeves and we loved the pretty ruffle at the centre front. We think it would look so pretty sewn up in our John Kaldor Fernando fabric.
