One thing I'm trying to perfect is cold-brewed coffee, essentially steep the ground coffee in cold water overnight, filter and keep the liquor in a jug in the fridge and use it by adding hot water or milk or reheating it. A much smoother drink than from the hot brewed cafetiere or wotnot, and of course it's essentially home-made "instant"! Instant coffee is an entirely different drink to freshly brewed coffee. It's a bit like comparing fresh orange juice to orange squash. And some people prefer squash to the real thing. You don't have to prefer the so-called superior product - each to their own.
