About this deal

So, as we have discussed already the Bosch SDS drill isn’t for continuous use by the tradesman, in our opinion. But what does it do well? Whilst we are on safety, Bosch have included a ball grommet on the cable, this allows it to sustain a fair amount of stress and manipulation without causing breaks in the cable. Often you see a drill or SDS drill more specifically with breaks in the cable, this isn’t safe and we need to minimise the chances of this as much as possible. Power

Basically, at best ignorant/incomplete and at worst downright sneaky on the part of Bosch and/or Screwfix.I’m an enthusiastic DIYer, who due to a previously life in the trades, still does the odd professional job.

The Bosch GBH 2-26 DRE forms part of Bosch’s professional range. We have always been very impressed with Bosch power tools. The Bosch PSB 1800 is one of the most popular products we have ever reviewed and is a fantastic testament to the company and quality of it’s products. Since 1886, the Germany based company, Bosch has been in the power tool industry. The company has a reputation for its pioneering and innovative technology alongside other top brands like DeWalt and Makita. In particular, the Bosch GBH 2-26 is a corded rotary hammer drill that features the Slotted Drive System (SDS) – an innovative drive mechanism first used by the power tool division of the company. Does the Bosch SDS drill have any redeeming features? Most definitely, it has many pro’s which we will uncover below, I am just saying don’t expect to be doing up a house and using this as your main tool. Specifications Corded:This appliance uses electricity as its primary power source. For that reason, it provides generous amounts of power as long as there is a supply, thereby eliminating the need to worry about battery life. Our corded SDS-plus rotary hammers have a maximum impact energy ranging from 1.7 J to the 4.2 J produced by the GBH 4-32 DFR model. The cordless rotary hammers with SDS-plus have an impact energy ranging from 1 J to the 5.8 J generated by our new GBH 18V-34 CF model. The impact energy of larger SDS-max rotary hammers ranges from 8.5 J to 19 J for the corded models, and goes up to 12.5 J produced by the new BITURBO GBH 18V-45 C cordless rotary hammer. Ball grommet: Generally, cable damage is a problem with all corded power tools. With regards to that, the GBH 2-26 comes with a ball grommet that prevents cable breaks, snag, and damage.

When it comes to the weight of this Bosch SDS drill, it isn’t the heaviest of the SDS drills we have reviewed. The Milwaukee is heavier in fact. However, what the other two SDS drills from Milwaukee and Hitachi have in their favour is balance. The Bosch GBH 2-26 DRE is the fastest hammer in its class, offering top drilling performance due to the 3.0 joule impact force and the powerful 800 watt motor which ensures constant power even under tough working conditions. When measured against its leading competitors the Bosch GBH 2-26 achieved a 34% higher drilling rate. Bosch have also managed to increase the service life compared to its predecessor by 50% so that means you can drill up to 100,000 holes in concrete. But we didn’t stop there, we also improved the sealing and cooling systems and you can change the tool-holder without needing to dissemble the tool first. This surely put the Bosch GBH 2-26 at the top of its class. Alongside conventional corded rotary hammers, our range also offers a large selection of different cordless rotary hammers with 18 V or 36 V. The 18 V cordless rotary hammers are part of our comprehensive Professional 18V System. The new BITURBO cordless rotary hammers are a particular highlight of the range. When used in conjunction with our ProCORE18V rechargeable batteries, these tools can be used in place of every mains-powered tool. Whilst we wouldn’t recommend heavy consistent work for this Bosch SDS drill, you know that no matter what this Bosch GBH 2-26 DRE will be covered. Positives and Negatives Positives:Improved cooling - power efficient fan improves cooling and gives greater power transfer for drilling and chiselling
