About this deal

Eric LaRocca's unflinching Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke will crawl inside you, move stuff around, and make you see the world differently, like all great stories do." - Paul Tremblay, author of A Head Full of Ghosts and The Pallbearers Club. The relationship between the leads is a hollow representation of a queer relationship. I am not implying it should’ve been happy relationship or it’s bad. It’s just not a real relationship. It’s a essentially trauma porn as another reviewer put it, and not indicative of an actual relationship between two women.

Eric LaRocca (he/they) is the author of several works of horror and dark fiction, including the viral sensation Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke. This is a nasty, kinky, strange, gruesome book, and I mean that in the best way possible. There is a horror book out there for everyone, and this one isn’t necessarily for the quiet horror crowd…although they should read it because it’s great. LaRocca wrote a unique book, and that’s rare. Between the format and the content, Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke is a literary tapeworm that will dig into your brain and make you squirm for a while. There might even be times where you want things to be over, which is something that often happens to readers when reading Edward Lee or Ryan Harding novels, but once it’s over, you’ll find yourself wanting more, and that’s LaRocca’s greatest triumph. Grades: Eric LaRocca's superb collection Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke and Other Misfortunes is cutting edge horror with pristine writing sharp enough to slice open your skin. Strongly recommend." -Ray Garton, author of Live Girls and Crucifax AutumnBleak, clever, edgy, and vicious. Eric LaRocca draws his readers in for something they will never expect and never forget." -Sadie Hartmann, 'Mother Horror' Unparliamentary language is defined as anything that "breaks the rules of politeness of the House of Commons chamber". Traditionally, some have used euphemisms to get around the rules - most famously Sir Winston Churchill when he said someone had told a "terminological exactitude" instead of a lie. I happen to be one of those people. I thought the pacing was excellent, and the characters played well off of each other. Do these feel like real people? Perhaps not, but that's ok! To me, they feel more like hyper-real, larger-than-life archetypes, condensed and concentrated versions of people you've probably encountered before (online or IRL). They are firmly rooted in reality, enough to empathize with their plight and to make you feel unsettled by the things they get themselves into. But they have an aspect of uncanniness too, which I believe serves the story.

From Bram Stoker Award finalist Eric LaRocca, this is devastating, beautifully written horror from one of the genre’s most cutting-edge voices. Part Dennis Cooper's'The Sluts',part David Cronenberg's'The Brood'... Eric LaRocca's' Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke'is a masterpiece of epistolary body horror." - Max Booth III author of We Need to Do Something Jeremy Hunt's autumn statement tax cut has fuelled speculation Rishi Sunak could be gearing up for an election in the first half of 2024. I’d seen tons of people in the horror community either purchasing copies of this book or talking about how much they loved it, so I figured I would give it a shot. LaRocca, outside of being a mutual on socials, is relatively unknown author to me (hence my hesitancy to believe the hype) but friends whom I trust with book recommendations RARELY leave me disappointed. When politicians use words deemed unparliamentary, the speaker will either ask them to withdraw them, or if they refuse, leave the chamber. While MPs are disciplined for swearing during debates, convention also bans them from calling their colleagues liars or accusing them of being drunk, among other things. He is an active member of the Horror Writers Association and currently resides in Boston, MA with his partner.
