To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.

After WWII however, wartime restrictions limited how much they could manufacture with the materials they had. Demand was still high, so they needed to find a manufacturer who could supply what they needed. Dartmouth Pottery had recently opened, and did not have the same restrictions that Royal Winton Grimwade was encumbered with. A partnership was created; Dartmouth Pottery would mould the jugs ready to be decorated by Royal Winton Grimwade. Browsing galleries and craft shops…. Taking a bracing cliff-top walk…. Sheltering in a cosy pub…. Taking a boat up the river…. Absorbing local history and National Trust properties…. Chilling out with a book…. Helping the kids catch crabs…. Dining out on top class seafood or local game…. A romantic stroll along the waterfront or the beach…. …. Choose the combination that suits you, all with the comfort and flexibility of a luxury self-catering apartment at Dartmouth Pottery! This local landmark building has recently been renovated to the highest standard, and this large spacious apartment has a 5 Star Visit rating. The fantastic secluded location on Warfleet creek is only 10 minutes walk from The Castle and the South West Coast Path, and a pleasant 15 minutes from Dartmouth town, so you can have the best of all worlds. Really lovely place which was well equipped with everything needed, particularly the kitchen which is very unusual for a holiday let." A stunning apartment, equipped with all you need, a parking space and super comfy beds after a busy day exploring."Lovely location helped by the fact that we have been to Dartmouth many times and know our way around. Double bed very comfortable with high quality mattress. There was only two of us staying but could be problematic, if more, as the main bathroom only had a bath and no proper shower. Found the sofas a bit uncomfortable and not very supportive. Overall a nice stay. Very modern in its furnishings although main living area is a little dark due to only one window and a natural stone wall about which, I am guessing, little can be done as I think this may be a listed building. Allows dogs which is a rarity in a Dartmouth for some reason! Accessed from the second floor landing, this luxurious, pet-friendly first floor flat opens into a hallway and on to the living area and bedrooms, plus a utility area. Great location, a parking space and all mod cons in a gorgeous renovation. We own several gurgling fish jugs so really pleased to have stayed where they were made.

The luxurious master bedroom has a King-size bed and en suite shower room, whilst the second bedroom has twin beds (zip and link) that can be made to create one King-size bed. A beautiful property a short walk from the centre of Dartmouth and a good location for the castle." The kitchen is complete with elegant white units that house quality-cooking appliances, allowing you to self-cater for yourself for the duration of your stay, and the central island unit makes a great spot of meal preparation.

About the location

The living area is tastefully-furnished with two leather sofas, a coffee table, a Bluetooth Bose speaker, and a Smart TV, whilst the dining area boasts an extendable table and six leather dining chairs. A lovely Grade II listed one bedroom apartment, set over two floors just outside the beautiful town centre.. Ground Floor: The Pottery, Dartmouth is a wonderful, comfortable and luxurious apartment in a lovely peaceful setting just minutes from Dartmouth Thank you for taking the time to write such a wonderful review - we really appreciate it. Sounds like you loved the location as much as we do! Kindest regards Property Owner since late 70’s) sharing it with now our third generation, we highly recommend The pottery, it was our second stay there over past 3 years on different levels ,there are stairs to think about but you get used to climbing in Devon, we like the idea of not having to drive to town,( it’s a short & scenic walk), or you can use the lovely ferry, up the road near The Castle, if you like photography & walks, this is the place.

The hill was a challenge as we are in our 70s but hey its Dartmouth and the view more than made up for it. The accommodation was great, and had everything that you could wish for.Over time, the design of the jugs passed through various manufacturers, ending up with Royal Winton Grimwade in the 1930s. Set in historic Warfleet and overlooking the Creek is this famous Grade II listed building which has been a paper mill, a bakery, an outstanding brewery and, most recently, the Dartmouth Pottery. Maybe a key pad safe could be fitted, then we could have gone straight to the property and also would have been easier when leaving. We frequently use Dartmouth for holidays and as yet the potteries is one of the best we've been to, it was a lovely airy space for 4 and the dog , very modern and spotlessly clean, the main reason for our choice wasn't just the location but with it being regatta the facility of parking." After the sudden death of Howard Koppenhagen and family in late 1955, his partner Richard Harvey carried on the business until it was sold in 1963 to G J M Hunt and Arthur Davies and in the early 1960’s Alan Brough an established potter worked there briefly as a designer. Harry Crute retired sometime in the early 1960’s and Leo Lewis left in about 1964, a Mr Balkham replaced Leo Lewis to do the design and model making for the moulds. Later in 1966 Alan Cooper was employed becoming the long serving Pottery Manager. Hunt & Davis sold the business in 1969 to a local man Mr Cole who in 1980 sold out to Samuel Heath & Sons.
