About this deal

Unfortunately, the actual Guilty Gear anime in Strive isn't quite as captivating. Technically Strive has a story mode, but it's actually just a long (maybe 3-4 hour) series of cutscenes--essentially, it's a movie made using the game engine. I find this approach, which the series has used before, perplexing. While I recognize the narrative limitations that come up when you have to weave fights into a story, I think that having some gameplay is necessary. I generally don't boot up a video game looking to watch a movie, especially not a fighting game.

Full game is required to play this content. Please make sure to get the update if the latest version of the patch is required. For context, fighting online and levelling up your chosen character's rank nets you thousands of in-game dollars. Beating 20 opponents straight in survival mode? 30 dollars. Playing against the CPU? Zero dollars. Replaying arcade mode with your favourite character? Zero dollars. While we understand the push to play online, we don't see why players should be penalised for playing alone, and potentially learning the ins and outs of the game at their own pace. A baffling decision considering Strive's positioning as a more accessible Guilty Gear. As of launch, Guilty Gear Strive feels a little light on content. 15 fighters isn’t the most generous offering, although there will certainly be extras added in DLC. There isn’t really much to explore for single player players either. You’re limited to Arcade mode, Survival mode, Mission mode, and a non-playable Story mode. Outside of all your superhuman battling escapades, there is a story mode that can be enjoyed. Fans very attached to the characters and lore of the series have something to dig into, and newcomers can now embrace the franchise’s story with an accompanying encyclopaedia.A. We cannot answer or guarantee functionality for any individual products. Read more on this topic below. Indeed, Guilty Gear Strive is a ridiculously good looking game. It's easily Arc System Works' most impressive release yet, and that's saying a hell of a lot when we already have the likes of Rev 2, Dragon Ball FighterZ, and Granblue Fantasy Versus to gawk at. We think it's easy to argue that Strive is the best looking fighting game ever made. From the immaculate character designs to the eye-popping graphical techniques that the developer employs, Strive is a visual marvel. Even if you have zero interest in fighting games, you can watch Strive in motion and be left in awe of its artistic accomplishments. Guilty Gear -Strive-“ is the latest entry in the critically acclaimed Guilty Gear fighting game franchise. Created by Daisuke Ishiwatari and developed by Arc System Works, “Guilty Gear -Strive-“ upholds the series’ reputation for groundbreaking hybrid 2D/3D cell-shaded graphics and intense, rewarding gameplay. To play this game on PS5, your system may need to be updated to the latest system software. Although this game is playable on PS5, some features available on PS4 may be absent. See PlayStation.com/bc for more details.

There’s such an immense amount of depth in this game that would just be impossible to cover without this review turning into a guide. Incidentally, it’s also the reason that Guilty Gear remains very much a niche product. The action is slower, which allows some accessibility to newcomers, but also makes combat a bit more thoughtful and deliberate. However, learning the game is still very much a major investment of time. Fortunately, an extensive Mission Mode is available to train you through every nook and cranny of the combat. A Bit More Fighting And A Little Less Writing Q. Is it possible to play the PS4 version on the PS5? Will there be any differences in that situation? Players, particularly veterans, who want to put in work will find Guilty Gear Strive to be a wild time. Undeniably Guilty Gear Strive is a near perfect fighting game for fighting fans. Arc Systems have done as much as possible to keep the gate open for newcomers, whilst maintaining a deep and intricate system for hardcore players to sink their teether into. It can’t be stressed enough how impressive everything seems to work in practice. A total of 24 characters are available, including 15 default characters plus 9 additional characters from Season 1 and Season 2!

A. The game's content is the same. There are differences based on the system specs, such as the resolution and load times, however. The Guilty Gear experience here has been somewhat streamlined to really bolster the importance of signature mechanics. Rather than emphasise hit combos, you’re encouraged to learn the various “cancels” that can string otherwise unchainable moves together. The system can be complex, but offers a tremendous amount of opportunity for creativity. The cutting-edge 2D/3D hybrid graphics pioneered in the Guilty Gear series have been raised to the next level in “Guilty Gear -Strive-“. The new artistic direction and improve character animations will go beyond anything you’ve seen before in a fighting game! Mission Mode, as previously mentioned, is a large and extensive, but serves mainly to train you in the game’s core principles. The endeavour of completing them isn’t itself fun, just necessary. There is also Survival mode, a fight ’til you drop series of 1 on 1’s, but probably won’t be the main draw of the players attention. That honour belongs to online mode. The story of Guilty Gear, spanning over 20 years, will finally come to a conclusion in “Guilty Gear -Strive-“. The trials and tribulations of the series’ heroes and villains will finally be resolved. Discover the astonishing truth awaiting at the end of all things.
