About this deal

Strawberries are best watered by drip irrigation, try twice weekly. Remember strawberry plants no not like to be waterlogged. Strawberries prefer a humus rich moist soil and they like a ph of around 5.5, just slightly acidic. So dig in lots of well rotted compost and aged cow manure and some blood and bone before planting. Soon the plant will start bearing flowers – each of the flower buds will turn into a strawberry. You will probably find a LOT of flowers on EACH plant.

After cropping, remove any straw and netting to allow better air flow around the crown of the plant.

Large fruit - These could be the largest strawberries ever and unlike some other 'king-sized' fruits they are simply bursting with flavour too. If growing strawberries in pots or hanging baskets, feed them with a balanced fertiliser every two weeks during the growing season. When flowering begins, switch to a high-potash liquid fertiliser to encourage fruiting.

Grow strawberries in a well-drained soil, with added organic matter such as compost, animal manure. Drip irrigationis best to help avoid fungal diseases in plants.

You can also use diatomaceous earth; sprinkle this around the base of your plants. Finely crushed egg shells will work too, as these pests won’t want to cross the sharp edges of the shells. Make sure you keep your strawberry plants well watered during hot, dry periods, and once they’ve finished fruiting, remove netting and mulch from around the plants to encourage air circulation and reduce the risk of pests making their homes there. How to make strawberry plants produce more fruit Strawberries should be planted out as soon as possible - only plant outdoors once all risk of frost has gone. If you plant strawberries too deep, they might rot, but if you leave the crown protruding from the soil, the plant will dry out and die. Firm your plants in well and water thoroughly.
