GB Railfreight, working with Porterbrook and Arlington Fleet Services, unveiled its own tribute to the NHS by unveiling 66731 in the blue and white colours of the health service on April 23. For this shot, knowing I was going to be zooming in for a closer view, I opted for a position higher up the slope to bring the Cemex loading sidings into the frame, and specifically the couple of trains lounging down there. Last week we unveiled one of our of our freight locos in honour of all the critical workers at the NHS, painted in their livery. It was a way of offering our thanks particularly for your efforts, and to wish you a very happy birthday. We are very proud to name this loco after you, Captain Tom. Once again then, GBRf Shed 66703 'Doncaster PSB 1981 - 2002' is captured, now making its way in earnest towards Manchester with the 8.40am Peak Forest Cemex - Hope St Peakstone loaded aggregate (6J46). Porterbrook, which owns the locomotive, part-funded the repaint, which was carried out by AFS at Eastleigh Works.

We are inspired by you and wanted to say thank you in the usual GBRf way, by painting one of our regular Class 66 which will be travelling the lengths and breadths of the country to keep our economy moving during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Now it will also carry our message of thanks to all our carers.”

Based in Sheffield, and with a container depot in Masborough, Newell & Wright Transport provide haulage and container logistics service so it’s likely GBRf have formed a partnership with them. Could we be expecting another naming ceremony some time soon? The locomotive will be used on trains carrying supplies from ports including London Gateway, Southampton, Felixstowe and Teesport to distribution centres across the country.
